CSN Philly vs Sunday Ticket is an Apples/Oranges thing.
Exactly don't know why this is so hard for people to understand. Same suspects repeatedly blathering on about a Quid pro Quo.
DirecTV does not Own the NFL Product, nor do they make Broadcast distribution decisions for said league.
The Only people that can allow Comcast or any other Cable Provider access to NFLST is the NFL.
On that point it will NEVER happen. They(NFL) got what they wanted with the RZC being made available to Multiple Providers.
As Long as there are OTA Network Contracts to broadcast the NFL it will never be on any Cable systems en masse. Even if said Cable system was the Highest bidder.
NFL would take less to keep it DBS only.
On to the main point about Comcast Philly, my opinion is that after fruitless attempts to negotiate a Contract for this , it will go to arbitration and then be made available to DirecTV hopefully before the All Star Break.
For the first time in Years I see light at the end of the tunnel.
If this article and the conditions are true, then there is no excuse for any further delays. People with integrity sit down and hammer out a deal and move on. It's already my opinion that most senior Comcast executives, such as Brian Roberts lack any integrity whatsoever. So since there is no integrity from the top person at Comcast, do you really think any of the troops will have integrity? Yea, right. Brian Roberts sets the tone - and his tone, in my opinion, is to screw everyone in his path. That is his way of doing business. Good business people have respect for their competitors.
verizon finally has moved in to my area. They were provided with a deal by the city to offer its triple play and have fair compeition with comcast.
so they signed a 7 year deal to get all of the city hooked up to be able to offer FIOS that was signed in 2007 and now 4 years later they are in my area and on my street.
so what does verizon do? they have market sales people knocking on all doors in the philly tri state. So someone knocked on my doors, first thing he says who is your provider, i say comcast and directv. HE says bottom line do you want to try verizon, what did i do. I slammed the door and said NO.
But he did say something very interesting, TCN HD will be on verizon systems in 6 months. Once all of the city is up and running with verizon they will have TCNHD.
So I would say by July Verizon will be the first company besides comcast to offer.
CSN HD, TCN HD, as well as PHL, FOX and ESPN.
I'm not sure if verizon is any good how their signal is vs D or E or C.
So July All Star break, I wonder if anyone else will join Verizon as compeititors to take down this mega giant comcrap.
Based off what i read and comments by you guys this could be a blockbuster summer. Hopefully if it does happen, I can cancel C and just go full core with D. If that happens we can then
end this thread once an for all
about 5 milion people in the philly market stretching PA, DE MD, NJ hopefully a sign of a relief will happen.
but as will and I and many have said many times, will see and I wont believe it till I see it.
but as of now Verizon can take a bite out of comcast's azz
what will happen first
CSN /TCN on D or
NFL gets new CBA or
neither both will not happen by years end lol
Two important quotes from that article:
"The impact of the sports channel is far reaching. As the FCC noted in the NBC Universal deal, "Comcast's withholding of the terrestrially delivered Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia RSN [Regional Sports Network] from DBS [Direct Broadcast Satellite] operators caused the percentage of television households subscribing to DBS in Philadelphia to be 40% lower than it otherwise would have been."
The fact that the FCC officially mentioned the lack of DBS penetration into the Philly market, bodes well for D* and E* customers, I feel. I think the major idea that D* and E* can use is how they are hurt by not being able to carry CSN in the Philly market. Everyone knows DBS is hurt in that market and the FCC knows it.
"Because Comcast has offered Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia to FiOS, it has to try to strike a similar deal with the satellite providers under the terms of the merger agreement. The issue will go to an arbitrator if it can't be resolved. Striking a deal may prove to be a challenge."
The key phrase there is "try to strike a similar deal". We all know that Comcrap will do everything possible to prevent DBS carriage of CSN Philly. They will use every delaying tactic, all legal means, etc. to try to prevent this. They know they will lose a large customer base in Philly if they have to give CSN to D* and E*.
One thing I have wondered, and asked on here before, is does Comcrap have to offer a similar price to E* and D* that they agreed to with Verizon? If it's a price per sub, D* and E* should be able to come out well, as both of these carriers have a much lower number of subs in the Philly market. Theoretically, when and if CSN Philly comes to D* and/or E*, maybe Comcrap can make up the difference when the renewals come due as undoubtedly, D* and E* will gain a much larger marketshare in Philly, if CSN Philly is carried.
We all know that NFL ST has nothing do with the CSN Philly issue, no matter how much Comcrap claims it is. The NFL controls who carries NFL ST, not D*. When the next NFL ST deal comes up for bid, I am sure that Comcrap will be more than welcome to try to bid on it.
Comcrap's days of limiting CSN Philly from D* and E* may be numbered, but I'm still not holding my breath until I see an official announcement from D* or from Satelliteracer, or watch CSN Philly on my TV.
The new CBA will be signed long before we get CSN/TCN
I would say that the CBA will be agreed upon roughly around the same time CSNPhilly and TCN is made available to D*. June 2011.
la24 - why did you ever turn VZ away? Their product is a lot better than Comcast and it has no time commitment.
Here in my little township of West Pikeland, VZ FIOS has made tremendous inroads. I know all my neighbors have it.
will, i can join verizon at anytime. They made me an offer 2 years for there triple play at 109 with no contract. which is their max program so you get everything.
Plus Verizon internet we had that before and it was terrible, verizon high speed, i still called it DSL since it ran through the phone line to the router.
Unless their FIOS internet is better then comcast high speed then i would go back.
But as of know Comcast High speed is great.
the funny thing is if i cancelled C cable and phone they would raise the internet by 20 bucks from 30 to 50.
I want to wait till the summer when they verizon get TCN in HD. Plus I have no clue if fios is better then comcast as far as picture, etc. Plus alot of phillies games may be on TCN to begin the season depending on the NHL, NBA playoffs.
I have no clue about anythin verizon does
lastly I want to see if an arbiration will happen for D.
Then if that does happen what would be better D or Verizon.
Fios Internet will blow the Internet service you are currently receiving from comcast into the next county. The picture quality is better then comcast cable and is as good, if not better then D*. The color on Fios pops slightly more then D* and I can always tell when my wife has Fios on rather then D*....
fire thanks, they just rolled out the FIOS on my block for the first time.
everyday around my area in roxborough / germantown they are knocking on doors hoping people switch.
also the mail lately has offers.
This is OT, but my friend la24 - Comcast's internet service is like a 300 baud modem compared to VZ FIOS.
will, i called and signed up for verizon i got the triple play for 124 including boxes and tax.
I'll be set up by weekend.
I also called and cancelled comcast, i believe they are now desperate they didnt want me to cancel and offered me 50 off my bill but i said no.
they are fearful of losing alot of customers.
i was paying comcast 230 a month for their ultimate triple play and i basically get a 100+ back.
best part is if i dont like it i can get rid of verizon with no contract.
so for the first time since i started watching cable in 1992 comcast is over in my house.
it felt good to stick a steak knife in brian roberts company
I got rid of them about two or three years ago for internet, never had them for tv, but unless about 1 or two million more like me and you tell them to get lost, I doubt Brian will ever care.
well for my street or area this past week marked the first company other then comcast to offer both CSN and TCN.
Verizon is marketing the heck out of our street and zip code basically. theyre knocking on doors. Mail, heck they had a big demonstration for all to see and have a little schindig for our area on saturday.
i saw atleast 8 verizon fios tech vans on my street so far i would say atleast 12 people are trying verizon and to save gas we used our buddy's pickup truck to drive to the local comcast office and handed in our equipment.
the lady said are you canceling, i said yes, they wanted an answer, i said
1 because i can
2 the bills to high
3 *&%* blank blank.
i would say their are about 40-50 homes on our block i would say atleast 35 are in line for verizon and have cancelled comcast.
now im actually in philadelphia, my drivers license has my name street and philadelphia pa
so this is the first time in the city itsself not the suburbs that verizon has broken through.
will is out in the downingtown, exton area will when did verizon start in your area 2007 or 2008? it took them about 4 years to finally get in to the city.
hey will, im sure you remember this. i found this classic clip of PRISM.
Guys this is what our sports network was prior to CSN starting in oct of 1997.
i wish they would have kept the music or theme with csn but will a stroll down memory lane.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mTs5EjCTVfA&feature=related its only 3 min
yup i remember paying 15 a month for this channel.
prism became STARZ
this last clip 1990 mike doc emrik doing flyers games and yes do you guys remember the patrick division man imiss those days
I'll be very interested if they do negotiate a deal with DTV, where the maps fall for Local CSN coverage. As was mentioned before in this thread, Those folks who are in Cecil County, MD fall under Comcast's evil blackout rules, even though we're considered a Wash/Baltimore DMA and receive only CSN MA/MASN. Even if you had comcast/armstrong cable, CSN Philly isnt transmitted in the area. If thats the case, this solved the need for so many Center Ice/MLB Ticket packages for a lot of folks.
I'll echo what others have said about Verizon's FiOS internet service. I have 35/35 service with them, and it's awesome. No slow periods... no download caps... no throttling. In fact, not only do I get my full speed any time day or night, I've seen a bit of a buffer on my download speed (and I'm not the only one). I've had speed tests of 40 - 42 Mbps.
nice, im also excited verizon will have TCN HD in 6 months i was shocked when the guy that was knocking on the doors when he said that
