What a well thought out reply, thanx! Last paragraph is funny. I went thru the same thing when I got my Genie and that odd remote. Wife wanted nothing to do with that remote and we ended up using one of the older remotes for a year or so. Oddly, she never complains about the Apple TV remotes.

Just got this month's bill and it's now up to $129 a month. For one channel and sports.

Not bragging by any means, but my D* bill is basically double that now without credits. That kind of money gives me a LOT of other options outside ATT's domain and still have enough left every month to take the wife out to dinner at Sonic or Checkers one or twice! LOL

It is comments like yours that make me glad I cut the Satellite cord!! :)

With my Mediacom TV and 200/20 internet service with nearly all of their channels, including the 4 Premiums and all fees my bill is $176. I'm using my own Tivo @$8/month for that service and have 3 TVs. Tivo Minis don't cost anything for either the Tivo service or the cable company. For info, if I didn't have their TV service and bundling, my internet alone would be $99/month.

I still have one $60 Loyalty credit that hasn't come off yet. Once it gets to ~ $190 a month...well, that might be the tipping point. I'm at the point where I'd rather pay the bill than cut the cord. Sports are my hangup, can't get past the way D* provides sports.

I think we could live with YouTube's cable replacement service. Or PS Vue. Depends on which has the better PQ. I don't even factor in the cost of internet service, we're always gonna have that. Only reason I'd need a cable replacement service is sports. If I could get that monkey off my back all I'd need is a few video streaming services. Without sports I have no need of a DVR service of any kind. Nice to dream about but that's never gonna happen. Besides that, I really like playing with my DVRs. Staying with D* seems to be the simplest thing we can do.

IIRC, my bill was similar to yours before streaming changed the way we watch TV. Dropped the premium movie package and started calling every year for credits. Dropping that package brought the bill down to a bit less than $200 a month and the credits last year brought our monthly down to ~ $25 a month. That only lasted for a few months and I really should call for credits but dealing with those CSRs at ATT bothers me. When that last $60 credit rolls off I'll have to make a call.

It isn’t just sports is it? You want to follow a team I think. I watch sports just am not a fan.
While I keep looking at the various sat/cable replacement streamers I just can’t find any that make me want to give up the convenience of cable/sat. And as long as the price is ok I won’t.

I do follow the Yankees. But I like the NFL games, really enjoyed the NFL ST this last season. If the MLB would lift the home game blackouts I would happily sub to them and wouldn't need a cable replacement service. Yeah, the convenience of D* is hard to beat no matter the cost.

I hated the football season this last year, because my team absolutely sucked. Couldn’t get STMax at a reasonable price, but was able to get RedZone for free after a couple of calls. It was the first time in nearly a decade I did not have full STMax.

I’m sticking with DirecTV because of the sports...

I didn't know you could get red zone by itself on Directv? Don't you have to get Sunday Ticket and Sunday Ticket Max to get Red Zone?

It's not advertised and many CSRs will say you can't get it separately, but you can get it. I've had it two different seasons.

I've been a Jets fan since they were the Titans. They usually suck. That's why I became a Jets and Giants fan. Now both suck. I really enjoyed the ST this year, it's a pleasure to watch well run teams. Might spring for the cost of the ST next season if I can't get it without cost.
