That basically is my point, there are fines etc but we can not threaten them with it. I know it's weird but like I posted I have talked about this in training class many times and the answer is the same.

Alas, I don't know them by their study names. I just know they were run prior to this year's full census. I thought they were to gather information about a couple things in preparation. (Including ways to increase voluntary compliance, which is what was used to decide on a couple mailers this year.) :)

And most of the time the biggest question was about "I don't have to answer any questions". "Well, actually you do. Not all, but several." The most interesting were lawyers and government employees who thought they knew... :)

If I recall if three questions were answered then the census is considered complete, but I will double check on that. Btw the manual contradicts itself in many places, very frustrating.

I agree with your last statement, Tom!

Never had to go the marshal route when I took the census in 1990. I don't think the option was even there then. But many things have changed in the last 20 years.

Best story from my encounters then was the woman in the beach front condo. I rang the bell, which was connected to her phone. Her voice message in response to the door ring included her phone number. So I wrote it down and called her that night (census takers did not have access to people's phone numbers, just addresses). She was astonished and asked how I got her phone number. I said I'd tell her as soon as she answered the questions. Worked out fine. I presume she changed her voice message shortly thereafter.

There were also a couple well-known celebrities on the list of those who didn't return the forms. I can't mention names but that was kinda fun... All were cooperative.

You are so correct! My 2030 if they are still using this system to collect info is cause someone didnt want to change the budget plan.

Nothing wrong with choosing not to escalate the issue but everyone must be counted.

But if a Marshall shows up with a census worker I bet the questions will be answered before any threat would be made. Marshalls arent the way to count people but in many neighborhoods around the country they are going to be called out because there are people that just simply want to be PITA. :D

There will be people that are always missed in the census and its a shame cause its only a determinate to the community. There is no positive result in refusing to be counted. Your only hurting yourself and the community. As I stated before, give the minimum information that is on the form such as your name and how many people live with you. I left my number out and I will tell anyone I know that if a census worker comes to the door simply give a name and a head count. Thats all that is really needed.
