Here we go again. Cox Media stations and DIRECTV carriage agreement expires February 2, 2021 and these local stations in several markets could be pulled if no deal is reached.

Goes without saying. Contract between content provider and service provider nears it's end. Content provider tries to extort large fees from service provider. Eventually agreement is reached between content provider and service provider causing service provider to pass cost on to customers. Customers get mad and complain about service provider. It's a never ending story.

Does the Locast app on the Genie receiver work for anyone? Why is it still there?

Of note there is CBS in Seattle. I am sure the NFL is an interested third party in ensuring the Super Bowl is televised by their Sunday Ticket partner in the 12th largest DMA in the country.

I suspect this gets settled sometime this week. If not, KIRO has some of the best OTA reception of the four major nets in Seattle, with repeaters/translators all over the region.

DIRECTV Customers in the KIRO-7 CBS Seattle, Washington and WHIO-7 CBS in Dayton, Ohio areas will miss seeing the Super Bowl if this doesn't get resolved this week.

Don't tell anyone but you can watch the game for free on Locast in Seattle.

100% agree with all you say. Had to recheck my KIRO OTA reception today and it's rock solid. Other options for us in the Puget Sound who had CBS removed include Locast, already discussed by many, as well as CBS All-Access (soon to be Paramount+), which gives you access to your local CBS affiliate. The latter charges a small fee, but often has a free initial period up to 30-60 days (check online for frequent codes)....which should be enough time to get you through the Super Bowl and likely through this impasse.

Good news for Pittsburgh: the Super Bowl is actually on CBS this year.

Bad news for Pittsburgh: the Steelers aren't in it.

Or whomever read that letter posted above temporarily extended the current contract while they continue to negotiate a new one. :)

UPDATE: sounds like they have signed a new contract.

An extension would make sense if the channels were not off yet ... but once down channels usually stay down until there is a longer term resolution.

So yes some of us were without these stations for a few days. It would be great if the two parties would negotiate to keep channels before they are pulled instead of us losing them. But I am sure they don't care about us customers.
