I watched England - Australia ODI last night and the picture quality was as close to HD as I've ever seen for normal def but obviously there could be a number of reasons for that - most likely the quality of the cameras being used by whatever station it is covering the game and the quality of your own television.

As I already said, the poor pictures really are pretty poor, but not unwatchable.

May I suggest we air our dissatisfaction with the current state of cricket on DTV to Ellen Filipiak, Sr. VP of Customer Care.

To send her a message go to:
http://dtv.client.shareholder.com/officers.cfm and scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on her name to bring up the form to contact her.

    Alternatively: go to - http://www.directv.com/DTVAPP/index.jsp
scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on Our Company on the Our company page click on Executive Team and scroll down to the bottom of the page to Executive Customer Care Contact.

I am a cricket fan & have been lurking for a while & share all the frustration. I am not saying that we will get a better result by contacting Ellen Filipiak but she is Sr. VP of Customer Care and if all of us who have a gripe contact her it can only help.

My apologies again for the 5 duplicate posts above but it was the only way I was able to post the URL's.

    Ken

I emailed and explained it would be a good idea if they could actually explain to their CS the difference between Willow and Cricket Ticket (if it still exists) and to try and eduacate them so as to put a stop to the total ambigous information they give. It's hard to blame the customer service reps if they haven't been told the difference in the first place. I know they won't change but I was hoping they might offer me a couple of months free by way of compensation lol

Update: This is becoming beyond comical and if it wasn't so ridiculous it would be funny. I e-mailed Ellen Filipiak, Sr. VP of Customer Care at Direct TV to explain there was contradictory information coming from their website and their customer service. Within an hour one of her reps called me back and asked if I could explain the problem. She then went on to say England - Australia WOULD be blacked out on Willow Channel on DTV, despite it being shown in their schedules and despite the Willow Channel answering an e-mail I sent them to say it would be shown on Direct TV. Essentially, this person was giving me the same information as has been given customer service which is, because this game would normally be a cricket ticket event it will therefore be blacked out.

I then went on to tell her that the programming schedule on Direct TV's own website shows the game as being available and even offered the ability to record the game to receiver. She agreed this was contradictory and said she would get on it right away and could therefore not say whether the Ashes will be live or not. She did say the online programming guide will be changed within the next few days to show it will be blacked out (if that's the case) and if there is no change the game will be shown. She did also say as soon as she has a definitive answer the customer service reps will be given that info and will therefore be able to provide the correct info to callers.

I must point out that Direct TV customer advocacy dept have been very good about trying to resolve the issue and totally agreed with me that the whole situation is ridiculous. However, that doesn't change the fact that as of five minutes ago the senior customer service dept of DTV still cannot say whether the Ashes will be shown live on Willow on DTV or not.

It's a total mess and hopefully they'll sort it out sooner rather than later.

If anyone wants to waste 20 minutes of their lives and have the same conversation the customer advococy dept can be reached at 1866 785 5536.

Thanks for your diligence! I'll spare my 20 mins, but this is getting comical, as you say.

So, if they are going to black out the Ashes on Willow channel because the Ashes would normally be a CricketTicket event - did they provide any info on whether The Ashes might be available as a separate PPV event?? The Cricket Ticket page on the DirecTV website still say "this package out of season" right now!

Or, are they just going to black it out on Willow and not provide any other feed, in order to piss off the most number of their customers and ensure that no matter what dish you have, and how much money you are willing to pay, The Ashes will just not be available from DirecTV? Are they getting sign-up bonuses from DISH network??!! :)

She said the Cricket Ticket was out of season and couldn't say if it will be back and she said that if the Ashes were blacked out on Willow it won't be shown on PPV. Interestingly, she did say if it is blacked out it is available online with Willow (as we knew) and that is where I think the problem is. It is conceivable that Willow would make the Ashes 'online exclusive' but if that were the case you would think Direct TV would then know exactly what their broadcast rights were.

If I had to guess I'd say the only people that know the answer to this are the Direct TV people that signed the contract with Willow and they are the people at fault for not then making the correct info readily available to anyone who needs it.

The most interesting part of all this is she told me that at present, all Customer Service reps have info in front of them that says the Ashes WILL be blacked out on Willow, so as far as they are concerned it's not being shown. It will be interesting to see if this is just one big mess-up from DTV and the games are actually being shown. If I had to guess I'd say the Ashes will be shown because it's important to remember that the Willow Channel did tell me via e-mail the Ashes WILL be on DTV.

The best thing to come out of all this is I now have a contact and number to make sure I get the definitive answer, and in turn that should help people who call their CS in future.
