One of the great things for Auto Tune for me is to use it as a reminder. With my HD receivers I do it all the time.

I will start flipping through the guide and see a movie or something coming on that I want to watch that is starting in 20 or 30 minutes so I set an Auto Tune to remind me so I don’t forget about it which I do all the time on my HR20’s because they don’t have Auto Tune.

Now if I set them to record I may not see the record light come on which happens all the time because where I have my equipment sitting.

So at this point I have forgot that it was on and I am not watching it. I do have it recorded now so I can watch it later when I get a chance but don’t know when that will be so that kind of sucks. Plus I am sitting there watching something I don’t really want to watch just to pass time until the movie or whatever I set the Auto Tune to come on.

If Auto Tune was added to the HR20/HR21 I would use it almost daily for this.

    Not quite.

I want to be able to automatically change the channel.

If I can schedule programs on different channels to record and schedule those recordings to play automatically (as long as I can create the schedule before the recordings actually occur, so the playback happens as the programs record), I can accomplish the same thing.

But these are just complicated work-arounds.

When people say they want autotune, what they want is the ability to schedule the machine to automatically turn to channel 4 at 8 pm. Just like DirecTV's standard receivers do.

Just the way I am. I can't wait for the game to start and I want to watch it as soon as it starts. Plus if the game is already over or already started I could not keep myself from checking the score or some body telling me the score.

Autotune is a godsend for parents with young kids. While attending to the endless array of chores/cooking/cleaning/laundry/bills/etc, the electronic babysitter can be autotuned to the shows the pains-in-the-as@@@, oops I mean little darlings, enjoy that happen to be on different networks. Keeps them occupied and not fighting over the channels.

It also frees up a little time for some "bonding" with the wife!

    How about this reason.

Dish has Auto Tune. They need it to beat the competition?

My Cable also has Auto Tune AND Auto Tune to Channel when receiver is turned on.

DISH and 'your' cable have AutoTune on their DVRs? (I don't know, I'm asking.) DirecTV does have autotune on their non-DVR receivers. This discussion is about autotune on the DVRs.

    Thanks for your contribution.

all you would need is the ability to set watch and record or record and don't watch..... Not that I am advocating this I just think some people are over complicating this...
