I just got an offer from my cable company (CV) that is hard for me to pass up -- $70 a month fixed for two years! Includes phone service, internet and IO/Basic HDhttp://www.optimum.com/lineup.jsp?regionId=19
(basically "every" channel less premiums. I'd save about $100 a month (factoring in buying two tivo units and 3 years of service)

Any one here come from or have CV service, how bad is it :)

    thanks
    John

Do you want to stay with Directv? The first thing I'd do is get Cablevision's offer in writing. Then call Directv and ask to speak with Customer Retention. See what kind of deal they'll offer you. Make sure you mention Cablevision's offer (And EXACTLY what they're offering). They may be willing to work with you. It will depend on how long you've been a customer, how well you've paid your bill (Always on time, sometimes late, always late), and about how much you spend every month.

I/O's Basic is not everything except premiums. It's the bare minimum...locals,CSPAN, religious channels. No A&E, MTV, History, etc.

CableVision uses SDV so you should look into Tivo and SDV as well.

I find it hard to believe they're offering all those channels, plus the HD channels, plus phone and internet for $70 a month. Are you sure you read/heard the offer right, or the CSR isn't just trying to fool you to lock you and then you have to stay?

This is what I did with CV. I wanted the triple play so I just added 1 receiver in a guest bedroom and got phone and internet. $100 month for all 3 for the first year. I would never get rid of Directv

Believe it! I got the same thing. Right now I am using a HTPC and get all the clear QAM channels(mostly locals) and I have ordred the new CETON 4 tuner cable card tuner. When I get that I'll be able to record up to six channels at once!

Depending on how it goes I will be saying goodbye to D* and the $120 bill.

With that cable card you may need 2 sdv tuning adapters as each on can only do 2 tuners each.

Will then even rent you them?

from my understanding CV only uses SDV on some premium and sports channels. Plus with them moving to all digital I think they will reduce or drop SDV.

But tuning adapters are free and do only support 2 streams.

I'm looking at that quad rig too...

How is PQ is it really bad? Since to me an extra $100+ a month is well a good thing :)

I had cablevision for years... I got so sick of them. I went to D. Jan 27... I can tell you CV hd is no where near the D. quality.. They tried to get me back for triple play of 116$ w/dvr... Once the new d12 channels come on D will have all that cv has for channels...

Since the CV offer does not have any kind of commitment or contract, you might want to look at suspending your DirecTV and trying out CV. If the service is what you expected, cancel DirecTV. If it is not what you wanted, you can then cancel CV and reactivate DirecTV. Your DirecTV account can be suspended for up to 6 months.

If you do check it out, and get the Tivo Premiere, make 100% POSITIVE they're going to give you an M-cable card. The Premiere's will NOT work with the S-Cards (Even as a single tuner). I've been reading over on the tivocommunity forum about some cable companies not having M-Cards at all, only S-Cards.

I'll report back later.. I picked up the TiVo's locally over the week-end and have a call with CV.

I dont think nor implied it was a better service then D* (I have to say HD is great here) but I could use the extra money at the moment.

Did you get the Premieres? Also make sure you pick up *2* SDVs. Each Tivo needs one.

I was going to get two refurb S3 off of TiVo... but I had a couple Best coupons and the price was only $30 more for the premiere so that was a no brainer. I hope they upgrade the software from people on tivocomunity have been saying... No I'm going to pass on the tuning adapters for SDV since none of the channels I will be getting are using switched digital video - i figure no point in complicating the set up. BUT CableVision does have the adapters which are free and can be self installed so if they start to use it more I can grab a couple.

Again I hope I didn't post this here in "error" was just curious if anyone here had CV. And as always everyone has given good feedback :)

Got to say the new menu's on these tivo units is pretty slick! I had a TiVo HD box a couple years ago on CV and it wasn't bad HD just no channels really and yeah some had more micro blocking then I would like but... maybe they have improved LOL :)

    thanks again
