I just purchased a new HR44 to replace my current HR34.
there is a couple of shows my wife has not watched on the HR34, if i deactivate the HR34
can I still access the recordings? I know it will be about a week be fore DTV sends a box to return the HR34.

Yes, as long as you remove the coax from the HR34 BEFORE it gets the "kill all" command from the mothership

Like peds said leave it unplugged or disconnected for a day or 2 then hook it back up, by then directv would have stop sending the deactivation and it will be good to go for week or two, before the card authorization expires.

Id also disconnect the ethernet and phone lines too. Once those and the sat feed are disconnected then call and deactivate it.

You might be able to do it via chat, but most likely will have to be done over the phone.

yes, they have had chat for awhile now, not sure when they started it but I used it a little more than a year now to deactivate and reactivate a receiver.
