I think my SWM16 is defective, but am wondering if I've overlooked anything in my troubleshooting, so expert advice is welcome!

Recently I noticed that all of my DVR, Receivers and Genie are missing the odd transponders on just the 103º satellites. My 5-LNB dish receives all transponders on the other satellites just fine. Here's what I've tried so far:
    • I tried powering off the SWM Power Inserter and repowering it, but that didn't help.
    • Thinking it might be a problem with a coax connector at the dish/LNB, I checked those and they seem fine.
    • Also checked the connections at the SWM16 inputs, and they seem fine.
    • I swapped the input cables at the SWM16 to see if the problem moved to different satellite/transponders, but it's always just the 103º odd transponders missing.
    • So I pulled out my old SWM8 and connected my Genie DVR directly to it (via Power Inserter), and all transponders are received normally.
    • Reconnecting to the SWM16 shows missing odd 103º transponders again.

So, seems like a defective SWM16, right? Anything else I should try? Thanks for your advice!

Sure sounds like the SWM16. I can't think of anything to suggest that you haven't already tried. Putting the SWM8 in place of the SWM16 pretty well nailed it, otherwise I might still consider the LNB (although swapping the cables made that unlikely).

Thanks guys. Replacement SWM16 on order. I'll keep you posted. Fortunately missing the 103º odd transponders doesn't seem to affect any channels that I typically record/watch.

I figured I had better fix before I discover that there actually IS a missing channel that I care about :)

Good to hear. Your symptoms, and the fault isolation steps you went through, pretty much left no doubt. Glad the replacement worked out of the box.

Not only that, but I have replaced numerous SMW16 for the same reason, missing 103. I think that it was a bad batch.

you def can, but you would need three more lines from the dish. Plus a 29v power supply instead of a 21v.

In practice, it's really the other way around. SWM16 is an external multiswitch that requires 4 lines from the dish and will support up to 16 tuners. Until the SWM13 LNB came out, a SWM16 multiswitch was required for any installation that has more than 8 tuners. I have a 9 tuner installation with a SWM16 in my basement.
