If a program is broadcast with Descriptive Video Service (DVS), how can I hear the description of what is happening on the screen?

If a program is broadcast with Closed Captioning (CC), how can I read the captions?

    (I have a Vip622 DVR)

The SAP/Closed Captioning options on your TV will not work, you need to use the options on your receiver. Someone with Dish might be able to give you a more specific answer on where you need to go in the menus or what buttons you need to press.

According to the owners manual, you press MENU, select Preferences and then Closed Captions. The VIP622 might have a more direct way like there is with the green Hopper remote button, but at least that should display them.

for the descriptive video go to menu , preferences (8) , alternate audio (3) , select alternate at bottom of list.

For test go to Fox just tested on grandfathered.
Here is a good list of shows that include this. http://www.acb.org/adp/tv.html#shows
