Probably trivial, but can someone tell me the difference between the 100 and 700 versions of the DVR. Mine died and they sent me a 100 and I had a 700.

It sounds like you were able to get the answer to your question. Although I don't think your thread title "Difference between HR22-100 and HR22-700" is actually accurate. I don't believe they made an HR22-700, only HR22-100's. They did make a similar model HR23-700 though. Just noticed that Doug caught that as well.

One is a real receiver, the other, not so much. ;)

    There never was a HR22-700

The only differences are who actually makes the units. There's a list around here somewhere, but from the top of my head -100s are RCA/Thompson/whoever they are today, -700s are Pace, and -200s are someone who I can't remember.

Despite the constant cries of some, there is no real difference between the -X00s. :)

I believe the name you are searching for is Samsung.

Since it's come up a couple of times today ..

For reference, I believe the manufacturer codes for DIRECTV receivers are:

    • 100 - Audiovox (formerly Thomson/RCA)
    • 200 - Samsung
    • 300 - [STRIKE]Philips[/STRIKE] Pace
    • 400 - [STRIKE]Hughes[/STRIKE]
    • 500 - Humax
    • 600 - LG
    • 700 - Pace
    • 800 - NEC

    * Philips STB unit sold to Pace
    * Hughes no longer making receivers AFAIK
