Hello - I have a HD H23-600 receiver that wouldn't power up after a power interruption at our house. All other receivers work fine. I left it unplugged for a few days and it still wouldn't power up. After a couple weeks I plugged it in and it suddenly powered up..so I left it on overnight. When I went to move the receiver to another room, It wouldn't power up again!
So yes power is getting to the receiver each time because there is a light that comes on in the back. Its not the power chord as I have tried 2...and light comes on at back each time but no power. I have changed outlets and same problem. Is there something minor inside that has come loose to cause this? I know Direct will eventually send me a receiver but want to fix the darn thing!

Sounds like the power supply is failing on. Maybe a bad capacitor given the symptoms you have. If you are handy with a soldering iron and don't mind investing time into it you might be able to fix it, but having Directv send you a replacement is so much easier (and you'll get an H24 which is slightly newer/faster)

Call DirecTV and request a replacement. It's free if you have their Equipment Protection Plan, otherwise $20 for shipping.

After the fiasco with the dreadful HR23s, I'd be suspicious of any receiver or DVR that began with a 23. Replace that thing.

Yeah, and I bought into the BS about them when they came out. I couldn't wait to get one and I couldn't wait to get rid of it.

As bad as the HR22s and HR23s are the HR34-700 is the worse. It has more problems than a dead monkey on a rock.

I thought about that before I posted, as I had a 34 for a couple years. At first they were fine, but then the HD GUI came out which started the horrific experiences I had with it. I then jumped to a HR44. Years before that in 2010, the 3 HR23’s I received that replaced my 3 HR10-250’s completely sucked right out of the gate, so I slightly respectfully disagree with you. :)

The 23 I had was bad out of the box too. I avoided the 34s. I didn't want a Genie but I got talked into the 44 and I'm glad that happened. I thought that was a piece of junk until I put the SSD on it. Never ceases to amaze me, how many problems are caused by the HDDs.

My H23 was dead out of the box and replaced with an H21. It worked well for years.
My HR23 lasted about 2 years and literally smoked. You could smell it burning. I unplugged it right quick and called for a replacement. Got an HR24.

I can’t believe you lasted two years with that POS! :) I didn’t last two months with the 23’s. It took a long second call to the old DirecTV bitching about how bad they were, and that yielded 3 brand new HR24-100 replacements. Talk about night and day differences!

The 24-100s were not what I expected. I had nothing but problems with every DVR that ended in 100 and when I got my first 24-100...damned thing worked so well I could not believe it was a "100". I have two left, both have HDDs in them that render them useless but with an SSD on them, they still work very well.

Wow, you were lucky! To miss the fiasco that lasted from late 2006 until 2008 is just pure luck. That first year was horrible.

Yep, I think it was March of 2009 that my 30" Bublé face Toshiba died and I got the 46" Samsung. Then my son bought his 52" Mitsubishi.
Then I went HD with programming.
