Installed the DirectTV remote and TV. The only buttons that works are the PWR and Volume. All the other buttons are not and don’t know what to do. Any suggestions?

Press and hold the Mute and the Select buttons. As you press them the green light will blink. Those do not count.
Wait for the light to blink 2 times, then type in 0981. This resets the remote to factory settings.
See if that changes channels, etc.
If it does, use the onscreen menu to program the TV back into the remote.

    My fault.
Do all of the above again except the number is 981, not what I posted before.

It almost sounds like you programmed the TV into the remote with the slider on the end of the remote on the spot for the receiver. Be sure when you do the 981 that the slider is in the DTV spot. When you program in the TV pay close attention to the screen.

I did the 981 according the User guide. Now I have to start all over from installing DirectTV and the TV. Will do it tomorrow, fed up trying at the moment!

Is it operating the numbers now ?
If yes, doing the onscreen programming is real easy. That remote allows you to get to a point in setting it up and at that point you press and hold whatever button it tells you and it finds the ode for the TV.
That X on the end of the model number means it has 2 way communication if your receiver is a 24 or 25 or 35.

If the numbers don't work, with the selector in the DTV spot, do the original routine except use 00001 for the number.

Just gave it a last try.... The switch was on to the left on the DirectTV symbol, pressed mute/select, put 00001 or 00002, pressed PWR once and nothing. Receiver still on!! Might have to call a technician to do it.

    Sorry about that.
You have a 24 model receiver. HR shows it is a high definition DVR, The -200 is the actual manufacturer of the receiver. DTV uses 3 or 4 manufacturers. I have an HR24-100. Same things.
The X on the end is the end letter of the Remote. It will 2 way communicate with the receiver and self program the TV.

Is this a remote that has been working and now has quit working ?
Or is it a new remote ?
Are the batteries in correctly and fresh ?

Brand new remote, new batteries and set in right. In the beginning of the evening it worked but only the on/off and sound were working. Now, after the 981 “trick” nothing works anymore.

What was your previous remote's model number ?
I am now wondering if it was setup in RF mode ? If so, it would act like this.
The new remote is capable of RF mode ( R in the model number ).
