All events will be shown LIVE through online streaming, so they won't "ignore" it from that sense. Many events will also be shown live on television. But don't forget, because of the time difference (5 hours earlier in EDT, 8 hours earlier in PDT) many events have already starts, some may already be over by the time we wake up in the morning.

What is shown in prime time in England (e.g. 19:00 - 23:00) are probably things like the swimming competitions, and will be shown live in the U.S. via one medium or another, tv or online.

The prime time broadcast of NBC will be the best events of that day, and there will be a 3 hour tape-delay between the east coast and west coast. Some of the events then shown will already have been broadcast live, others have not been. In any case *everything* can be seen live through their web streams.

I'm planning a social media blackout of some sorts. I am rooting for both the USA and The Netherlands, and my social media outlets are FULL of people from both countries, so it will be hard. :D

Can't you watch online via nbcolympics.com? If your package includes MSNBC and CNBC, you can! In addition, all events that aren't live in the regular channels will be live online.

    Spot On!

I'm a Huge Sports fan and watch sports that run the gamut of TV year round.

Olympics the ones upcoming and most other hold very little value to me as a viewer. Mainly because of the way they are covered.

NBC does not even supply SD feeds for these 2 stations, so you wouldn't be able to get them with *any* provider in SD.

Well, I believe NBC will be showing a couple live swimming during the morning or early afternoon hours (EST).

I do hate NBC olympics coverage but it seems the wide range of options that they've planned for 2012 (Online and TV) are going to be much better than their previous olympic coverage.

Another thing I'm pissed about is the coverage of Track and Field. NBC absolutely &*^% the Track n Field fans again. They chose to tape delay those events for their primetime crap. So I will be streaming those events online as well.

    Sixto reported "some movement":

    http://www.dbstalk.com/showthread.php?p=3062931#post3062931

They are ALL of the NBC Networks that will do the Olympics.... I am thinking they are preparing to line them up In the 75x channels numbers for the Olympics. I know its nothing more than channel remapping, which is why I am unsure of the spotted movement, but I am betting it has something to do with that.

I am pissed about the opening ceremony. WILL NOT be broadcast live, and instead we will see an edited version that fits in the 8:00 PM to 11:00 PM time slot + commercials.

Not going for it. I am pretty certain the BBC live production will be captured and torrented before the west coast NBC production begins.... so I will be downloading that, and watching the BBC coverage, without interruptions, without commercials, showing ALL nations march in, not just the ones NBC things are important enough so they can throw in some commercials.

What also pisses me off with NBC is that their prime time coverage is still not equal for everyone in the U.S. Sure, I understand that the west coast NBC affiliates want that local news shows, but there is no reason not to be able to simulcast their NBC prime time coverage on e.g. Universal HD or so, so that those who want to watch it at the same time the east coast... actually can.

For most Americans, the Parade of Nations is what they fast forward through.

Yeah I realize most Americans don't care much about other nations.... and I guess NBC appeases the majority. I personally like to check out the outfits some of these nations show up in, especially some of the African and Asian countries. It is just part of the experience. I grew up watching the entire opening ceremony of all Olympics (living in The Netherlands) and I am not about to stop that because Americans supposedly don't care about it.

No worries... if the Opening Ceremony hits the web at the same speed a TV series hits torrents, I will have the BBC version downloaded before the west coast broadcast even begins.

Then let them fast forward through. I know a lot of people who love the parade of nations. It is a great ritual. Pandering to the majority of morons makes media more and more moronic, making more people morons...and the cylce goes on.

Let us dumb down everything for everyone. That is a good strategy.

Agreed, Tony. And speaking as an American since birth, my family and I very much enjoy the parade of nations. As Maartena said, the national costumes can be very interesting and we find ourselves discussing how certain situations happened (such as the Jamaican bobsled team). The events are a mixed bag - I absolutely appreciate an amazing gymnastics routine or great weightlifting performance regardless of nationality. Basketball, baseball, or soccer - not so much - those I tend to focus on the American teams.

Everything should be live, period. Then if want to relay it in Primetime, go for it. This is not rocket science. Technology today requires this as far as I am concerned. I am happy it looks like they are making a step in the right direction this year, but it's still not far enough.

One word: VPN , I used a proxy server in 2010 to watch the canadian coverage, and this time around VPN is the way to go. Do some quick google searches, or PM me, and you will find very fast VPNs in the UK for around $5/month, then you can stream all events live through the BBC. (not like we can't do that anyways with NBC other than the opening ceremonies, but I for one hate the big ad bar that's on top of the NBC streaming, and doubt the BBC will have that)

According to the info I have, NBC is only showing qualifying heats for Swimming in the daytime, which take place live from 5 to 8 AM ET. Thus, those heats will be over by the time the daytime coverage starts on NBC. The finals and semifinals, which take place from 2:30 to 4:30 PM ET, are being held over for prime time and late night coverage.

According to Sixto's report this morning, channel 392 NBCe showed some movement.

Do you think it is possible DirecTV will open up the NBCe feed for everyone during the Olympics? If so, I'd be thrilled as I live in Phoenix, and we have weird time delays here.

Here is what the report showed:

    392 NBCeHD FT D12 17 1020 <------ 392 NBCeHD FT D11 5 1020

    Dripping...
Doubtful since it's the networks and it's affiliates that would have to say OK and IMHO the local stations don't want to lose out in the ad revenue.

I realize it is unlikely, but why do you think they would include it in the remap with the rest of the NBCU HD stations? CBSe gets opened for the Masters Mix Channel in April.
