I wonder if this has everything to do with why DirecTV is not getting them.
Four years ago, NBC and Comcast did not have their relationship.
DirecTV had all the extra NBC Olympic channels. Now, this time around, DirecTV has the bare minimum (mix channel) and not the extra channels in the 700's.

    That has to be it.
Screw NBC/Comcast if that's what it is.

These companies with-hold from making these types of official announcements, as you have to dig on the Internet to find them. I'm still hoping DirecTV is somehow in negotiations still, or if not, they end up changing their mind. The 700's are tied up to golf now, but will be open at the end of July to add the Olympics, if they would choose or come to an agreement. However, when I called back in yet again today, management had been informed with an e-mail sent today from the company that they will have the mix channel, but not the extra channels.

If they put NBC on it, I'm sure they needed agreement. The "cable" channels may be within the agreement for them just being on the system but the main NBC feed is not on their system via Comcast/NBC. Those deals are all local.

The e-mail was sent to management today.
Mix channel is added, and it stated that the extra channels will not be available as DirecTV will not be carrying them.

I don't know if that means DirecTV chose not to, to prove a point to NBC/Comcast that they don't need them. Or if NBC/Comcast played hardball with them. I don't see how that is fair to allow Verizon to have the extra channels, but to lock it away from DirecTV. So it sounds like DirecTV must have decided not to carry them, because of the NBC/Comcast partnership, and they're sticking it to NBC/Comcast by saying "we don't want your extra crap". So who knows what's going on at this point. But I've called in multiple times, talked to multiple people including management, and have gotten confirmation each time that they won't be carrying the extra stuff. And then their Olympic website link on DirecTV talks about the mix channel, and not the extra channels. You put two and two together, and it's not looking good right now for us DirecTV subscribers.

Who knows who made what decision or why. But Comcast would never hold back something from directv that they give to fios. Oh, wait. CSN Philly.

You wonder if Comcast holds Directv hostage over this stuff with things like G4, and the SD versions of the other Comcast channels

I'm sure it's just another way for coincast to screw over DirecTV.

No agreement is needed for a mix channel. That is something they just cook up themselves by combining a few feeds. They do it for news channels as well.

Well no, this goes to show how much DirecTv gives a crap about Olympic fans and the Olympics in general. They couldn't add 2 free channels for two fricken weeks when their main competitors are adding them to the line-up. Their execs are f-ing morons.

Folks, let's wait until July 25, then we can complain about the special channels not being carried. I know the current directv page doesn't talk about the special channels, but with the number of sports bars that carry Directv across the nation, if everyone but Directv carries the special channels, it would be really bad on Directv. Last time, all providers did. I won't start complaining until it's either 25th and the channels are showing up everywhere else but Directv or I hear from an official source that Directv won't carry the special channels.

The 700's will also be tied up for the PGA Championship on 8/9-8/12 as well.

This could also have a lot to do with why they're not covering the Olympics with those extra channels then. They already have a prior commitment to the PGA Championship. And they don't have the room to put the extra Olympic channels anywhere else.

IIRC DirecTV used the 750's channel range for the Olympics in 2008 and I believe there was a golf event at the same time with enhanced coverage in the lower 700's.

Since Comcast is basically going to have live feeds from every event for the entire duration available online, I think it would have been awesome if Directv could have cut a deal with comcast and basically replaced all their PPV channels and any other ounce of bandwidth they had with all these same channels that will be streamed, so every directv customer would have access to every event on live tv, as well as streaming.
