DirecTV 4k Dropouts

    I saw the exact same thing and a dish re-alignment helped greatly. I know I had issues with heavy concurrency on their internal drive so I had upgraded earlier to a mirrored drive set with WD Red drives (and that fixed "a lot" of issues). I suspect it is due to the CPU on the Genie 2 just having issues maintaining the I/O streams to the drives, pulling the content over and pushing it over MOCA ..... Good 4K burns 19-25Megabit per second ....

    Samsung JS9500 (2015), Yamaha 3060 ... all kinds of combinations tried ... nothing but pain ....

    I am a techy, work in high tech, but at some point some technology needs to not be babyed and should just work ... and maybe it will with ATT's video service .... on the Genie 3 ....

    This has been going on forever, and it's not just Samsung as I've seen people with Sony also complaining. I had Samsung come out to check my tv last week. Of course these dropouts don't happen when you want them to. They stayed for an hour and did NOTHING! And the problems still persist. A new one is my wi-fi constantly gets disconnected. If I want them to come back I have to jump through the hoops of creating a new ticket. I give up.

    In Dec 2018, we updated to an HR54R1/500 and three C61K-700’s. One of the minis is connected through a Denon x3400 AVR to a 65” LG OLED 4K with HDR, one is connected directly to a 40” Samsung 4K, and the third is connected through a Denon 3313ci AVR to a Panasonic 65” plasma 1080p.
    The freezes/blackouts began on channel 104 from the beginning. Initially I was only using 104 on the new LG so tried connecting the mini directly to the LG, changed HDMI cables, swapped minis, etc. but had no improvement. I then found that when playing a recorded 4K program, the freezes/blackouts occurred at exactly the same spots in the recordings regardless of which tv and mini I used to watch them. Channel 104 programming will run on the Panasonic (non-4k) but in 1080p. Exact same freezes/blackouts in the same places as the other two. Sure looks like it must be a problem in the HR54’s capture of the signal to me. Streamed 4K does not seem to have the same problem.
    In the last 24 hours, we’ve just gotten a software update (0x114b) for the HR54 from DIRECTV. Hopefully, that included a correction for this issue.
    1/17 Update - Every program we have watched on 104 since my earlier post has also experienced the very same freezes/blackouts. We haven’t been able to catch one of the very infrequent programs on 106 and don’t do POV on 105 but expect they would be just as problematic. Very disappointing!

    Don’t look for a quick resolution to your problem. Directv refuses to publicly acknowledge or address the issue.

    I began receiving Directv 4K programming around March 2017. The first nine months of the service had audio issues when changing between two 4K channels, but video was pristine without issues.

    The 4K video dropouts pixilation/freezes/blackouts began later in the year, in December 2017, about the same time HDR was first offered as a Directv 4K video enhancement. The annoying intermittent 4K black screen video dropouts continue to this day.

    As you have noted, and I have previously replicated, the 4K dropout video issue only occurs with Directv 4K programming received via satellite. Directv 4K streaming via the internet is pristine and without video dropouts and blackouts.

    Your description of the issue is spot on. I am experiencing the exact same nuisances (problems) you have identified and investigated. The 4K video dropouts occur with my AVR and with the cable plugged directly into the HDMI input on my smart TV. My house has been completely rewired, and all equipment has been replaced. The problem still exists.

    I have had the same issues starting with the last update for the Genie 2.
    The new update I will report on but the dropouts continue,but only when using DTV.
    All streaming using 4K is OK,zero dropouts with YouTube,Netflix,Amazon, etc.
    Swapped C61K twice but same results.
    Does the streaming side of DTV have their 4K??

    I've had the signal dropouts on my C61k almost from the day I upgraded to 4k almost a year ago. I only watch 4k programming via satellite (not streamed).. the dropouts seem to be purely random and only happen on 4k channels (104 and 106... I don't watch PPV on 105).

    no just on the 4K from DTV.
    Every other source is fine.
