I'm trying to pick up some used receivers. Tried calling the main line to check status owned/leased and I used to be able to get a straight answer. Now it's just a bunch of offshore people reading off a script and have no idea what im talking about.

I tried calling the 877-887-7994 number, to talk to the directv access card people and its no longer in service. How does one definitively check status now? Or is it just not possible?

Well att got rid of the work at home program, so the access card department is probably gone too, right before we were gone though, they did put the acdt transfer on the last page of our transfer list, and some agents never realized this, so they couldn't transfer a customer because they weren't looking past the first page of transfers

common sense doesn't work here :( - eg not to do Search and Read first, then post same question again and again

The alternative is to use DirecTV Chat online. I went on last night and the agent was able to assist me right away on checking three different used receivers. Chat lasted about 10 minutes.

Good to know, I'm going to be selling a couple owned HR's so I hope a potential buyer would be able to verify their owned status :)

For me, things are different now for the last year and a half with them compared to the past. I found typing is less stressful than navigating through the menu's, and I do not do very well with voice language barriers....

It just would have been nice had they not gotten rid of the access card dept. number....

They could save on support costs by simply putting something on their web site that allows you to input a RID and see if it is owned status or not.

They could, but they are not really interested in making this process any easier. There is really no benefits for them.

they would rather squeeze all of the "owned" equipment out of the system, the goal is to operate as close to the cable model of 100% lease as possible.

Can you buy outright any of the current receivers, specifically Genies and whatever the latest HR series is? The MPEG-2 shutdown will clear out a *lot* of owned receivers I reckon

MPEG-2 shutdown will clear a lot out, but typically 'current' owned equipment AFAIK is limited to DirecTV employees who subscribe and testers once the beta is done. Those receivers can be sold. There are some exceptions to the rule though.......

Here's an interesting thing about that , I've worked for directv twice, the first time my equipment was owned, the second time I went with upgraded equipment since I now had hd tv's, so I went with a genie, 3 minis and an h25 to fit my needs, well I thought it would be owned equipment again, but lo and behold no, it's all leased

I found this out after I deactivated the h25 to replace it with an hr24 that I had upgraded to, I had to send it back.
