    from link:
"In a statement, a G4 spokeswoman said, "G4 offered DirecTV the same basic deal we have had for the past three years. However they still plan to drop the network and deny G4 fans the only network that focuses on the popular gaming lifestyle."

I used to like G4, but every time I turn to the network now it's Cops repeats over and over all day. It was a good channel when it first came out and then Comcast turned it into junk..

I watch this channel very rarely and I am an avid gamer. Unless its in HD I am not interested. Plus I never ever watch this channel.

Seems like people need to worry more about the channels they may be losing than the HD channels that haven't been added.

G4 backdoored their way onto Directv by buying out TechTV. I won't miss the channel if it goes. I get all my gaming news online and any show I liked on the channel was killed off because of the merger(Screen Savers, Call for Help). I can watch Cops, ST:TNG, etc..reruns on alot other channels. I'd much rather Directv get Funimation instead and drop G4. At least Funimation will bring unique programming you can't get on another channel.

IMHO, Comcast should be paying Directv to air the channel on Directv's birds.

I can honestly say I have never watched G4. I would not know if it went away.

I haven't watched it once since it was rebranded from Tech TV. C'est la vie!

It's possible HD is one of the sticking points. Either Comcast wants D* to carry it in HD and D* doesn't or Comcast wants extra money for the HD feed.

next thing you know they will be saying that they will no longer be broadcasting QVC

    (fake outrage)

in other words, i loved tech tv and haven't tuned in since they changed over. IMO, good work d* in dumping a channel that very very few care about.

It's too bad D* can't show the same backbone against a Value-Detractor like ESPN. As Hulu, Netflix and RedBox continue to gain traction, D* will have wished that it had drawn the line at 1.50 a subscriber.

I'm another one that hasn't watched since they killed TechTV. Ironically, a lot of the talent on TechTV, especially ScreenSavers/Call for Help crew are better off than they were doing the shows. Except maybe Martin Sargeant, not sure what he's been doing.

I missed Versus more than I'll miss G4.

I only watch G4 when nothing else is on. I really like X-Play, but it seems it's been rebranded into something appealing to the lowest common denominator. Outside of that, it's pretty unwatchable. And not being in HD definitely doesn't help it's case. Maybe HD is the sticking point, and I'd only want it to stay on my service if it goes to HD.

Why would I care about D* delivering anything that I can get for $1.50 from a vending machine in from of WalMart? I can't tell you the last time I walked into a resturaunt or bar that had TVs and they were showing something from Netfilcks, Hulu, or RedBox. Um, its going to be ESPN, NFL Network, or a RSN.

I can tell you for certain that I am not going to go to Red Box to get a sporting event weeks after the fact. Heck, right now, the most important thing going on is the pennant races. The Reds magic number is 7, and they are playing the Brewers!

Funny thing is, I am not a major sports fan. There are guys out there that can rattle off line ups, or compare various quarterback. I am more of a casual fan... penant races, my alma mater's football games, the NFL team back where I grew up, March Madness, some soccer. I have sports pack, ST and Direct Kick.

So, lets be clear, lose ESPN and I'm back to Time Warner.

I like to watch AOTS on G4 but the sd is so bad that it is unwatchable anyway. No big loss if they were never going to get the hd feed anyway. Might as well get rid of it entirely

Anti-ESPN folks constantly bring up the price they charge MSO's. They don't get how big sports are. Of the Top 45 network primetime telecasts of all time (1964–2010), 23 of them are sports.

If ESPN dropped off a provider, they'd lose millions of subs.

The only sports I watch are my beloved Stanford Cardinal football (# 14 this week), occasional tennis, and The America's Cup (but Ellison took all the fun out of the America's Cup).

Yes, many people watch ESPN, but after a decade of wage stagnation, many will start to leave MSOs and DBS's co's due to sports programming.
