I am wanting to upgrade to 4K, and would like to do it myself. I have a LG 4K Directv Ready TV and I Know that I need a HR54 to receive the 4K programming. I just don’t know if I need to replace the LNB to a Reverse band 3 or 5 ultra HD 4K LNB.

DTv will do the swap, if you'll insist on it

Unless you have something on the 119°W satellite that you need currently. Such as you're in a local market which has SD locals there you want, even though these are all mirrored to 99° and 103°W nowadays in HD or a few in MPEG-4 SD.

Spanish (predominately) and some other foreign language programming. And (except for "Holidays & Happenings) a number of Latin genre music channels.

Then the RB SL-3 is all you need ...

    How does 4k ready tv's work ?

If I have the 4k tv connected Ethernet (on same Ethernet switch as genie2) will it get all programming or does it need coax in ?

Currently I just use a 4k mini box but wondering for future reference.

But what the poster is asking is even if the 4K TV is certified, will it work over ethernet with the Genie-2 instead of coax MoCA?

And I'm pretty sure it will, but perhaps like the HR54 not for the initial setup. So after the G2 is setup on a coax connection to the RVU enabled TV. The customer can later switch the connection over to ethernet.

Does Dtv even allow self installed 4K?

If you purchase the equipment through a third party provider like Solid Signal, yes ...
