No, he didn't say that at all.
I've got two full time RSN's (FS Midwest & CSN Chicago) and three when the Royals are on FS Kansas City. If I had the sportspack, FS North & Wisconsin would be available as well.
Doesn't MASN also carry Nationals games? Interesting that you get DC locals but can't watch the Nationals on MASN...I know you are talking about Orioles but in any case....
So you can get DC locals and watch Capitals and Wizards on CSN but can't get MASN to see the Nationals (or Orioles). Something ain't right....LOL
Yes, MASN carries the Nats and Os.
I have seen several of the National's games on the Baltimore CW station over the last few years.
You have? In live in Baltimore and don't remember seeing a nationals game on WNUV.
I believe my father's zip is the black hole for MASN. MASN claims the zip is out of their territory while MLB contends the zip is in MASN's territory. So he cannot watch games through the normal regional sports network (which he has been for every year he had Directv - except this year of course) and cannot watch MASN as an outside network with Extra Innings, since MLB blacks out "local" broadcasts.
Usually those zones are patched up by using the sports pack.
I assume Nationals are blacked out, too?
I'm not sure. I didn't ask him. I know he watched a few of the Nats games last year, but I am not sure his interest in them. He may have just watched them because they followed an Orioles game.
I was also told the sports pack would not solve the issue.
I don't think anyone has suggested this yet. Suspend DirecTV for MLB season and subscribe to cable for the baseball season. You can probably get some kind of discount from cable for being a new subscriber and they will not require a penalty when you go back to DirecTV in 6 months. I know this sounds like a pain but I think it is your best solution and perhaps DirecTV will have something different in place for next year or you can suspend again next year. I think you can suspend for 6 months each year.
How far away is he from zip code 17224? My sister lives in Fort Loudon and gets MASN. She doesn't subscribe to Sports Pack. I'm actually at her house right now watching it.
How would that help him? His zip is different.
After talking with MASN and then Directv again, Directv is working with me on a solution. I had to go to retention, but their customer service has been great thus far. The person I talked to listened to me and answered my questions. She agreed that MASN should be a regional sports network but somehow MLB messed things up. She said that since I have been a preferred customer for so long that they will work with me, first by giving me credits and adding the sports channel package (essentially being free) and seeing if that helps, and if it doesn't she said they will work on the credits for the Extra Innings package.
I really didn't want to leave Directv, but I would have had to go to the competitor if I couldn't get the channels I wanted. Directv seems to want me to stay as well.
Awesome. Now we just need to know if the O's games work with the Sports Pack turned on.
Well, the sports pack did not work as the Nationals game had a "not-subscribed" message during the game. I called retention tonight and the person on the other end said all she could do is take off $10 of the MLB Extra Innings. Although she was polite, that was not what I expected. I am disappointed to say the least.
I am going to call Comcast in the morning to see what they can do. The bottom line is Directv is charging about $200 for a local sports network (one that was included in every package for 15 years but was changed this year). I'm pretty sure I can get a whole package of channels with MASN included for $200 from Comcast. I may be wrong, but I will find out tomorrow. I would have to make a special trip to Pennsylvania to be there when the installer comes if I decide to go with Comcast. But, this is getting me frustrated.
If you suspend the services you lose whatever discounts you may have during that period. Also your contract is placed on pause if you have one then resumes when you in reinstate. And customers with are allowed a maximum of two suspend requests every 12 months but; the total time with service suspended per 12 month period can not exceed 6 months. Also you have to have a zero balance with an active debit or credit card on the account and if there is an active sports subscription installment payment on the account any remaining multi-pay charges are billed to your account when it's reinstated from suspension even if the season has ended. Sooooooo that probably wouldn't work for just anybody lol
I just think it's crazy that we are probably no more than 30 miles apart, me being closer to Pittsburgh than you are, you being closer to Baltimore/Washington than I am, both in Franklin County (I assume you are), both getting the same locals (both Harrisburg, PA and Washington, DC) yet I can get MASN as my local regional and you don't.
I called last night and was able to get them to give me $270 in credits to offset the cost. See below. Might try again. Remember you need to talk to retention. This time they need to know that if you can not get a good deal on Extra Innings that you will be checking into other service providers. That would be the truth not a threat.

I called again this morning and got a better deal than last night. It wasn't as good as yours, but basically got it for $90 after credits and 6 months of free Starz. That at least buys me time for next season as I was blind-sided with it this year.
So you did get MLB Extra Innings? If so please tell us it worked to get him the games.
