Do you know whether networks are doing different contracts for streamers than they are offering cable/satellite providers? Since for now at least they have a different audience (younger people and in general people less willing to spend money on TV) I wonder if they offer cheaper deals and/or better terms to the streamers so long as they consider it "extra revenue" - subject to change once the loss of cable/satellite subscribers starts to really affect their bottom line, of course.

Well unfortunately, what Comcast gave with 1 hand w/Epix, they just took away with the other, with the removal of MGM-HD last week, from all their systems. (MGM fully owns Epix now, so they may have made this deal to basically "swap" MGM for Epix on their systems nationwide)
AND at the same time, Charter also appears to have removed it from at least the majority of their systems, that previously were BHN & TWC; Charter never carried it on their legacy systems, so it appears this was to further bring those previous non-Charter systems into the fold.

With these 2 major carriers dropping it, it appears like MGM-HD might be on life support, on ANY systems. ;)

MGM has essentially been month to month on Uverse for quite some time. It’s been listed on U-verse Programming Changes for as long as I can remember, always moving the date out a few months at a time.

Let me make a few predictions for 2019:

    - DirecTV will add these channels in HD: The remaining Encore HD channels, C-SPAN 1 and 2 in HD, Nicktons HD, Sportsman Channel HD, NASA HD, OuterMax HD, Fox Soccer Plus HD full time (and still $14.99 a month).
    - DirecTV will add several 4K channels including: HBO 4K, NASA 4K.
    - Fox will have at least 6-10 MLS games available in 4K including the All Star Game. And potentially a game or two in the Gold Cup tournament in 4K as well.
    - A few NFL preseason games that are aired nationally on NFL Network will be available in 4K. ESPN debuts 4K content with Monday Night Football.
    - The dispute with BeIN Sports will not be resolved.

Has HBO announced anything about an HBO 4K channel? We'll hear about it well before it comes, they aren't going to want to keep that a secret.

Yes that's probably the best shot but so far ESPN hasn't done any 4K at all. They would probably test it on some smaller events before doing MNF so I wouldn't hold my breath to see it this fall.

Fox's local affiliates would have a problem with that, though it is already simulcast on NFL Network so who knows what kind of contract situation they have. I wouldn't hold my breath.

Thx for posting, I haven't looked at their page for awhile. But something else I noticed...they have all the Stingray music channels set to expire in February as well...considering that D* switched from ST to Music Choice, I'll be curious to see if/when they do the same thing on U-verse.

So for whatever reason, I happen to drop in on ch 388 JBS...& to my surprise, my receiver (& TV) are both reporting this channel is in 720p!
I believe this channel has always been on Ka band since day 1...but I sure don't remember it being in HD on launch. (before anyone asks - yes, my receiver is, & always is in Native mode [IMG] ) Does anyone know when this channel went HD...or has it ALWAYS been HD since launch?
While the picture quality is NOT up there with many other HD channels, it definitely IS much better than any SD channels. JBS DOES offer an HD feed, that FiOS, Spectrum, Google Fiber TV & CenturyLink IPTV all carry (as per om's AVSF National HD lineup thread)...so I highly doubt D* is "upconverting" an SD feed.
I checked some of the other (supposed) SD channels on Ka-only, (PI's) & none of them appear to have been upgraded to HD. (including NASA, sorry NASA fans...)

According to the CE site, JBS has been HD for a few months. But I do not ever recall anyone ever mentioning it going HD at the time on any site.

Those notices just seem like they'd cause more worry among subscribers than anything. Is there any other provider that does that?

It depends on the cable/telco provider and their local franchise requirements. Some states require 30 days notice of any potential change, and some states like New York take it a step further and require providers to let people disconnect or downgrade their package without any penalties within 30 days of that change, even if they're under a contract.

U-Verse, Xfinity, Spectrum, Verizon and Frontier are the ones who put them online for everyone to see, many others limit it to the public notices section of the local newspaper, bill inserts, on screen messaging on one of their community/bulletin/access channels, and/or local filings with their state's public utility commission.

Thanks for this information ! Every new DTV HD channel has always been announced in this thread. I'm pretty sure that JBS has never been announced here as having been launched in HD.

Was it missed on this thread ??? Or is it not really in HD currently ? Looking at Ch. 388 now and it looks like SD widescreen upconverted to 720p by DTV.

Do we know where the CE site got their info from ? From Doctor J's weekly reports ?

Is JBS-HD listed in the Edgecutter Forum HD channel line-ups for DTV ? Or in their Transponder maps ?

Well again, I can all but guarantee you all those other providers are NOT (also) upconverting an SD network feed...so I can't see any reason whatsoever why D* would. If it actually IS an upconverted SD widescreen feed, then it's definitely the network itself doing it, as they are actually broadcasting an HD format feed here: (tp 5 Ku band)
