Sundance and IFC, both which used to show Independent movies and some original programming have both become another in a long line of channels who show the same syndicated reruns and tired old movies that are showing on a whole host of of other channels. It's time to start consolidating all these channels. There's just too many that have the same stale content. They've replaced the old OTA independent channels. I used to watch a lot of content on channels like USA, Bravo, FX, even AMC, but there's hardly anything besides these reruns these days, and often the same ones over and over again.

    I have a suggestion:

    Sundance should end.

The same is true of other cable-television programmers who dissolved into something else that resembles nothing of what they were originally about.

This is a waste. We subscribers pay for this. So, my suggestion is not inappropriate.

Until the move, Sundance is assigned to channel 557.

After the move, it would be nice if AT&T’s DirecTV added Epix Drive–In and move the current Epix screens from channels 558 to 560 to channels 557 to 559. Bring in Epix Drive–In at channel 560.

Oh but that would make too much sense. This is AT&T we’re talking about. Come on, bulk up the package to make it seem like there’s more for the money and get people to subscribe? They know better!

All they would need to do is move the remote ordering screen from Channel 561 to Channel 557 and Epix Drive-In could go on Channel 560.

I am not sure. My guess is maybe its a TVG decision? We did get TVG really late in HD, maybe TVG is going HD only?

They wouldn't switch NFLST to HD only in the middle of a season. There's a pretty good chance it will be HD only next season though.

I wonder if the TVG situation is a test to study customer-service inquiries, response rates, and so on. It's a niche channel, so most customers won't particularly care -- but there's a certain subset of subscribers (both residential and commercial) who will care quite a bit if they can no longer receive it.

Are they paying for carriage? If so, they may get more viewers and make more money moving to HD but not want to pay for both feeds.

I wonder if they would start doing the movie channels(HBO,Showtime, etc) next, being you would think they would have all HD boxes in their household or at least a few.

Since they only did a single channel, it was probably due to some change on TVG's end. Maybe they had a separate SD feed and were dropping it, and since it isn't exactly a popular channel Directv just figured they'd take the lazy way and drop the SD dupe.

If this was part of some plan to start going HD only on a lot of channels, they would have done more than one. Besides, what would be the point, what good does it do them to free up a little space on 101?

They have been phasing out MPEG2 by DMA, assuming they continue that scheme once they've dropped MPEG2 SD locals on all spotbeams and only NYC & LA are left, when those go they'll probably be accompanied by all the national MPEG2 duplicates in one fell swoop.

Local CW network channel in Tallahassee, FL just went full HD. Maybe they are dropping the MPEG2 feed of TVG?

Forgive for posting this here and not reviving a thread from 2013, but BBC World News just replaced Newsmax at 6pm CST tonight on Newsmix Ch. 200. Wife is happy again with the mix channel.

i mentioned this in another thread but I think RZC is HD only.

I had a rain fade event the other day and whey the auto "switch to low res" message came up , there was not an SD/Low Rez Version of RZC. i saw a directv logo and the guide info display said "to be announced" . thankfully it was only a 10 min fade event.
