Please use this thread to discuss your feelings about upcoming national HD channels.
This thread will not be as tightly moderated as the rest of the site, but here's the tradeoff...in exchange for being able to rant a bit more, you can be assured that absolutely no one at DIRECTV will be using this thread for reference.
You can ask for all the new HD you want, but DIRECTV's marketing department knows that the 100-150 contributors to this thread are only a small part of the nearly 20,000,000 total subscribers.
*Please remember that all forum rules are still in effect.
*Please do not "bump" this thread.
*Other threads that do nothing but anticipate HD channels for which there is no information will be closed.
*This is not a DIRECTV vs. Dish thread, there are other threads for that.
If you have any questions as to what belongs in this thread or an individual channel thread please read the latest DIRECTV Programming Forum Rules (Link).
How many Directv subscribers actually have the equipment necessary to use VOD? I suppose that most participants in this forum do but I am not so sure about the Directv subscriber base at large. That's why I would rather see them use bandwidth for HD channels like LMN, H2 and Reelz before they add more VOD content in HD.

TV based VOD content comes from internet downloads, it has nothing to do with the bandwidth it would take to deliver them as a linear channel via satellite. The VOD content that uses bandwidth from the satellites is the overnight pushed movies you see as guide banners in the 100s and the showroom, in the evening those feeds are shared with the part time RSNs and sports packages.
So you want them to use the bandwidth to have HD versions of all the various shopping networks? DirecTV had better get a lot of money for that. Maybe the can sell the naming rights to DirecTV-14 to QVC
I watched Portlandia via IFC on demand. That show was soooo funny! It's a shame IFC is not in HD. I understand if its a bandwidth, uplink equipment or encoder issue, but to not have VOD content at least offered in HD is crummy.
Anyway I think my biggest want is now IFC... At least HD VoD. This Portlandia show was hilarious. One problem I had with the VOD was that the volume was really quiet during the show and once in awhile there was a commercial that would literally BLAST the house out of the water. Normal volume on my TV is about 12 - 14. For Portlandia I had to have it at 24 - 26, so when a commercial came on it was like BAM!

I don't know about all of them, but QVC almost certainly has more D* viewers than some of the smaller current HD offering networks. Like CSPAN, they don't subscribe to Nielsen, so we don't have the usual apple-to-apple metrics to go by. But if you look at QVC's own website, their best day (in 2007) for individual orders was 850,000 orders in one day. That's actual product orders --viewers would no doubt be much higher.
You do not even need whole home. All you need to get VOD is an HR 21 or higher connected to the internet. I do not remember if the HR 20 connects to the internet.

Is there any chance we could get international news stations like Al Jazeera, France 24, BBC World News? Since they are all streamed anyway, they would not take up extra bandwidth.

Omitted (non-DNS) all West Coast feeds due to previous comments made by Satelliteracer,
except for ION HD West given it's status as a broadcast network.
Special thanks go out to URFloorMatt from AVSForum.com for his charts, as well as to BigRedFan for her help regarding the Spanish Language Channels.
My top 3 would be Fox Movie Channel, H2, and...I'll throw in Oprah Winfrey Network for my wife. Really, I'd be very happy with just the first 2. We don't really watch much of the other channels that are left in SD.

Could be higher. But maybe not as much as you may think. Many will place more than one order on a day and the orders probably also include website orders.
But since qvc is not ratings driven, it is moot anyway.

CBC Newsworld was never available in the USA, what we had was Newsworld International, which was purchased by Al Gore to create Current in 2005. Outside of The National and some of CBC's other newscasts the majority of the channel was made up of original content and output from other international broadcasters like ITN, Deutsche Welle and NHK. CBC Newsworld has since rebranded to CBC News Network and I'm not sure if they can be offered in the USA unless they launch an alternate feed due to the rights to some of the documentaries they now air in the evenings.
