Please use this thread to discuss your feelings about upcoming national HD channels.

This thread will not be as tightly moderated as the rest of the site, but here's the tradeoff...in exchange for being able to rant a bit more, you can be assured that absolutely no one at DIRECTV will be using this thread for reference.

You can ask for all the new HD you want, but DIRECTV's marketing department knows that the 100-150 contributors to this thread are only a small part of the over 20 million U.S subscribers (37+ million world wide).

*Please remember that all forum rules are still in effect.
*Please do not "bump" this thread.
*Other threads that do nothing but anticipate HD channels for which there is no information will be closed.
*This is not a DIRECTV vs. Dish thread, there are other threads for that.

If you have any questions as to what belongs in this thread or an individual channel thread please read the latest DIRECTV Programming Forum Rules (Link).

I expect the same, but doesn't the end of Sunday Ticket free up 10+ HD feeds?
Or are these just allocated to Pay Per View channels?

Anyway, our home really wants Universal Sports and Sprout Kids in HD.

In my first posting with 2014, I want to quickly say…

    Happy New Year!

I quote TheRatPatrol because his position is the same as mine on this topic: Let's have a full HD lineup of programmers with available high def!

I also don't expect much of anything, during this first quarter, until D14 becomes successfully launched which, apparently, would allow DirecTV to break out the bubbly and bring its lineup up-to-date.

Before that gets done, the interesting possibility I consider are, say, two or three more basic-cable programmers which would get added in HD before D14. I Iean toward anticipating Home Shopping Network HD, because last year saw the addition of QVC HD and, frankly, I don't think we're going to be delayed for a year or more before the high def of QVC's chief competitor also becomes available from DirecTV. I also consider The Hub HD, in part because this is with Discovery and we are due for that as well as Military Channel HD. (The Hub HD before Military Channel HD would be ranking of one without the other.) The third I would consider is Sundance Channel HD, because the more original programming it creates, and the Emmy attention doesn't hurt, the less resistance there should be with not delivering this programmer to a cable-television provider's lineup in high definition. (I think AT&T U-verse may have just added it.)

Any one programmer's HD not mentioned in the previous paragraph may be a more higher priority to the powers that be at DirecTV. (Evidently that was the case with the out-of-nowhere addition last month of Weather Nation SD/HD.) So the fun of this thread's quarterly following has been in trying to guess ahead as to what comes next. A year ago this month saw nearly ten become added. (And, when this was alluded to in December 2012, I limited myself to predicting, and ultimately nailed, five.)

It's been fun here doing some predicting. But, in coming back to TheRatPatrol's quote, this cannot go on forever. So with a brand-new year, I know we HD enthusiasts like getting one more step closer to a full HD lineup. And I will continue enjoying this thread with regard to the intrigue en route to arriving at the destination. For me, this isn't about anticipation; it's having to do with expectation. With D14 coming soon, and with the continued challenge of figuring out the powers that be, I hope not to be let down by DirecTV. I am optimistic.

That's only if you have a local affiliate. The national feed in the 400s is still SD only.

In our home the SD we are forced to watch is: Nick JR, Oxygen, FXM, We, The Hub and sometimes Reelz and GAC.

There's more that I would like to watch if it was in HD like Pivot for example. I'd also contemplate upgrading my package to the next tier that includes Sprout and esquire, but only if they BOTH were in HD, otherwise I can't justify the extra money for SD channels.

My local cable co www.secv.com just added Military History, Nick Jr, Nicktoons, MTV2 and TVLand in HD. I only have them for Internet and phone though. They are pretty small only under 200,000 subscribers in Pennsylvania. But they are not a publicly traded company. Being privately owned has its benefits as it has been keeping up with HD, more so than even cable giant Comcast in its surrounding territories. Their only weakness is multi screens of premiums in HD, which is made up with HD VOD instead and the Motorola / Pace iGuide DVRs. Though they just went 100% digital from ch 2-135 so I think they will add more HD now that they have room.

So DirecTV better add some HD or else when my local cable operator releases the 6 tuner Moxi HD whole home DVR I may have to jump ship.
