    Lancaster,...
I hope that after D12 goes live, we'll get some more local HD channels in the Harrisburg/Lancaster, PA market. We're lacking WLYH (CW) and WITF (PBS) in HD.

A bunch more national HD channels would be nice, too.

I would like to have WGAL 8.2 but I have a feeling that wont happen. It isn't HD but I would like to watch it sometimes.

    Sixto,

Do you think maybe Spaceway 1 could be used to help expand rural coverage gaps with ViaSat (WildBlue) via a lease or something? Wouldn't it would be ideal for them to use this satellite as it operates on a higher frequency band and help those guys with their horrible download speed?

I'm no expert, but what do you think?

We're heading off into off-topic, but to answer ...

Spaceway-1 (SW1) had 101 LiL channels last August, and then 1 or 2 LiL channels since then (using gct/doctor j data).

It's somewhat curious as to why SW1 would be virtually empty for 6 months, which leads to the speculation that maybe it's being used for something else. Latin America was a guess a while back, but none of us did the research to see if that's possible.

You'd think that if SW1 was to be used for any new Cinema service that it could have started months ago, which leads to some speculation that it's unrelated.

For any use of SW1 within the U.S. other then LiL in the defined frequencies, there would have been an FCC filing, which there has been none.

Wow, I came to the forum this morning with intention to finally ask this question. I see that, this Swanni read my mind. :)

I am not going to bash or anything, but with addition of all these PPV HD channels that they are saying, would it leave much room for the HD channels that we as customers are legitimately expecting?

How many non PPV HD channels will we get when D12 is operational?

People, people...it's 400 PPV TITLES not CHANNELS, there's a huge difference.

Alright, I bite, so what is the difference? Wouldn't each Title occupy one channel like it is right now?

No...Each title now doesn't take up 1 channel.

Each channel shows one movie through out the whole day. It is one title per channel.

Titles could be downloaded to DVRs, either through On-Demand (Internet connection) or a few dedicated channel slots that send the films out only once to be recorded. It would be impossible for D* to add all those movies as "channels."

With that said, I agree that it's troubling that while their TV ads trumpet 200 channels, everything D* says "behind the scenes" suggest they don't care much about traditional HD channels.

OK then. Humor me. "What if" these 400 titles come only from D12 (which seems to be the case according to everything that's come from D*'s mouth), then even a very generous 10 titles per channels still amounts to 40 channels. That's a scary big chunk of bandwidth. If they were planning on internet delivery or delivery from some other sat, why haven't they rolled it out already? Why would they keep saying D12 will increase capacity for PPV (it's in the press release a few posts back). And why would they limit PPV only to broadband customers? So 1 new sat, 400 PPV titles, and 90% of the HD nationals the public wants - it just doesn't add up, especially since they've been completely mum about new HD nationals.

    OK... enough!

A.)Hollywood doesn't have 400 titles that would fall into the PPV category at ONE time.
B.) DirecTV didn't say they were going to offer all "400" movies at one time.
C.) There are over 150 movies available right now on DirecTV Cinema without D12
D.) At least 10 movies are sitting on the hard drive ready for instant viewing
E.) 400 movies most likely means 200 titles with an SD & HD version of each.
F.) Most everything available on DirecTV Cinema is "on Demand"
G.) No Fleet of satellites will allow you to select a movie and watch it delivered over satellite as you order it.. do the math.

In short, this endless speculation with all the nay sayers thinking D12 is going to deliver nothing but PPV or DirecTV Cinema is totally illogical.

    DO THE MATH

In a few weeks we will know.

Ok that is it, I have never said anything in here, but everytime that someone asks anything that could go against DirecTV someone comes out, starts to shouts and throws kicks all over.

It is a VERY LEGITIMATE question that people can have, because DirecTV in most of its communications emphasize that the launch of D12 is mostly to put in place a very complete PPV system. Good for them.
Very few times it is mentioned that they will have new HD channels. Now I am sure that they will add some, but as at this moment there is a huge fight between the TV providers about the number of HD carried channels, one would think that DirecTV could use a very powerful argument by saying that by end of April they will add this amount of HD channels to their lineup, as they did last time that they launched a Satellite.

Now again, I never wanted to bash or whine, but I wanted to know if people have any information about it.

This is a forum, people exchange opinions, people ask questions, have the courtesy of listening in patience and answer in a civilized manner.

If I see another add or another commercial stating that D* now has the capacity for 200 Hd Channels I think I'm going to snap! They fuss about E* making false adds and assumptions but last time I checked I don't see 200 Hd Channels. If I went around boasting all the time about how I now have 10 cars but you only see my driving one all the time. Wouldn't you have a bad perception about me? Just Sayin.... Now if I said I was going to have 10 cars and told you what kind etc and then fell thru with it in the future than that would be a better statement. But note "We Now have the Capacity for 200 Hd channels."???

Exactly...If people think D12 will just be PPV, then I'd switch now...why wait? I would bet anything, new channels will be on D12 & not just PPV.

Directv can't say channel XYZ will be on D12, get over it & accept it. Satracer is 100% legit & if he says we'll be happy with D12, then believe it. Or go tweet Swanni and join him in his ignorant Directv bashing and clueless world.

So many name callings, you must have had a very bad Sunday. It is not healthy to fight with your computer. :)

I actually know SatRacer well and obviously whoever knows him knows that he is legit and pretty honest. That being said, DirecTV is very silent about the number of HD channels that they bring with D12, which is against their usual policy, usually they make a big fuss out of it. Of course they should not and would not say which channels would be added, but they usually they give a hyped number to motivate the customers. Hence my question.

I am done defending myself. Now I let you go back chocking your monitor.

    I am off this thread.

    Cheers,
    Alex
