I won't . I only care about AMCHD but Mad Men will probably be delayed. If it comes before Breaking Bad I will be a happy camper.

or may it's just GSN HD and some one messed it up and put the HD logo next to GSN game lounge.

how far fetched would it be for some TV brand to make an HDTV that does upconversion of TV signals?? I mean my Blu Ray player cleans up my old DVD's pretty nicely..while not 1080P or 3D for those on that bandwagon..they do fill the letter box or pillar box pretty good.....and send a message to the Satellite & cable TV companies...cry all you want Im doing my own upconversion....Is the Idea for an HDTV itself to do upconversion so not do-able??

All HDTVs convert the input signal to the native resolution of the panel. If they didnt, when you input a 720p signal on a 1080p monitor, it would only use the middle part of the panel (like some computer monitors do if you input 800x600 on a high res panel).

But have you ever tried to watch it in 720p? That's not HD.

Now if it was only broadcast in 1080i....

DirecTV's latest commercials no longer push them having the most HD, but having the most 3D, and comparing it to DISH who has "0" 3D channels. I think that their emphasis on 3D may have a lot to do with their recent slow down of adding more HD.

They also some push dish's lack of MLB EI and MLB network.

and still go after DISH's part time RSN HD.

You aren't starting the tired old argument that "720P isn't hd" are you?

Gets done for all sets that have 1080P native resolution. Question is how good. You can get a DVDO Edge or Duo to do it well for <500 and <1000.

This is very similar to a process that has been attempted for well over a thousand years: alchemy.

Just as scientists haven't figured out how to make gold from lead, engineers can't magically add quality after the fact. Some artifacts can be identified and addressed, but there is only so much you can do over and above painting the lead.

Don't read too much into that, the BBC sacked a lot of their Website administration staff as part of their cost cutting ;)

Every fixed pixel display (plasma or LCD) upconverts, as they have to display everything in their native resolution (1920x1080, 1366x768 etc). Standard definition on DirecTV is 480 x 480 I believe and it appears they starve the bitrate on some channels. Garbage in, garbage out. I don't think there is much you could do to improve the picture quality even with a very good external scaler. All this without mentioning the aspect ratio. When a provider simulcasts their HD & SD feeds by cropping the HD feed you can zoom to fill the screen (example E!), but stretching 4:3 content looks terrible to me and I would never do it. Cheers

OK, I was on the forum page, and a banner ad from DirecTV pops up on the top of the page. It says "up to 130 channels in HD", and in small print below "with the capacity for up to 200 HD channels".

Has anyone else seen this ad? And when did D* downsize their HD channel count from 160 to 130?

The ad is from a dealer not D* itself so it's probably outdated.

    D* is still claiming 160. http://www.directv.com/DTVAPP/content/hd/overview

Makes sense what you said, Coca-Cola Kid. Thought that may be the case, but wasn't sure.
