Cool, I really hope we get basic HD too.

Far too many channels added over the past 8+ months that require additional cash out of pocket if you want to watch them.

I really hope DIRECTV adds basic HD soon. Cool for the customers that pay for premiums and/or sports.

I say “basic HD” additions are long overdue.

Yup, goes for me too. I’m not an HBO customer, nor will I be. These new channels have zero benefit to me. It just seems like we’re SOL if you want basic HD.

Congrats to the peeps with HBO.

Us basic HD hopefuls, we’re still waiting.

I wouldn't read into the "HD" icon in the guide or publication. Comcast used to do this all the time on their SD channels, and when questioned about it, they said that the guide data comes from the content provider. If they have an HD feed available (whether it was to Comcast or not), they sometimes marked it as HD in the publication.

Moot point on the local Comcast in our area though. They upgraded and carry all of those in HD now anyway.

I really want DIY, BBCA, and AMC for myself, and I really would like E!, Style, We, GMC, for my wife.

What's this about a rumored game lounge in HD? Why would that need to be in HD, if the receiver generates all the text and selection elements. The receiver also generates the games graphics. Doesn't make sense unless we had an HD UI and they were doing it out of consistency. Even then, the Game Lounge background is a still image. They could compress that in HD in under 1 mbps since it never changes.

So it looks like D* will sneak in two more HD channels before the 1st quarter ends after all, and another HD anticipation thread will end. Now lets see what the 2nd quarter brings. I still want to see their 65% owned GSN channel added.

    This means nothing.
Its just telling you the programs are Broadcast in HD, not that D* is showing them in HD.

Guess you never looked at a TV guide before.

but they can use the better CPU power / ram in the HD boxes for better games that the SD boxes can't run.

I have and one that is targetted to a specific system should show what is on that system. Except for a mistake once or twice over the years of the DirecTV in house magazine, non-HD channels were not marked in HD. We may have a different perspective now that the magazine is not in house.

As for generic TV Guides, ESPNHD is a different channel than ESPN (SD). They should be marked differently and the guide should pick the one(s) that is(are) available.

You believe what you want, do you have those channels right now?

    NO ! Exactly!

Only thing you proved is that D* likes to mislead customers at all cost!

Given the downstream addition of truTV HD we at least know DirecTV will not ignore basic channels completely during 2011. Also, I interpret SR’s oracular comments (sorry Sigma!) as “soon” translating into the availability of at least a few more basic HD networks.

Well, as a Premier subscriber, my wife and I will appreciate the two extra HBOs. As will several million other D* HBO subs. As i've said before, if you do the math, it's likely more D* subs will be happy with this than with AMC (comparing HBO subs to AMC's ratings).

Still looking forward to AMC, BBCA, TCM, and DIY later in the year.

I welcome the HBO HD additions but I want a couple 'basic' channels too. According to http://www.dbstalk.com/showthread.php?t=174806 the D12 satellite still has 33 open slots (out of 80 total) so let's get busy adding some more HD! Please don't forget the 'basics'!

Foolish post. Did you miss the part about the DirecTV in house magazine NOT putting HD on the shows except for two or three times in the past whatever years?

It is not belief. It is as a reader of that publication since its inception.

The difference here is that DIRECTV DOES NOT PUBLISH THE NEW MAGAZINE.

I know everyone is excited to see these channels showing up in a guide as HD but there's nothing to say DirecTV is adding these. As much as I want BBCAmerica in HD their dropping of news in the evening and the seemingly endless reruns of StarTreK doesn't make this nearly as appealing as it once was....

Looks like if you are not an HBO subscriber (I'm not currently) you may repack your Festivus Pole.
