Well SR has already made an announcement that carriage deals have been signed and HD is coming "soon." He barely said anything this Q until bout 2 weeks before they launched.

Who stole it from Robert A. Heinlein's "There Ain't No Such Thing as a Free Lunch" (TANSTAAFL), who got it from Jerry Pournelle, who credits his father. . .and which makes it old enough for "lunch" to probably be the German/Scandinavian definition with cold cuts, cheeses, pickled herring, etc on a sideboard, which also fits with how Heinlein used it in "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress". . . which was as "free" bar food, as long as you sat there and had a beer or whatever often enough for the barkeep to not run you out for eating without buying drinks.

There was a time right after it's launch that BBCA was great. Lots of British comedies and dramas as well as chat shows but if you look at their schedule now, yes the show Doctor Who and Torchwood as well as Law and Order UK and Top Gear and Graham Norton and that is good, but they are showing in the next week a million (ok, I exaggerate) episodes of Gordon Ramsey which is overkill and the X-Files and Star Trek that are not British programs and don't belong on the channel and on Sunday they are showing the following films : Casino Royale, Dr. Strangelove, Murder by Death and 2 Pink Panther films, what I would like to see tem do is show some of the BAFTA TV nominees and winners in the "Single Drama" category, and it would be great if the televised the BAFTA Awards themselves, both film and TV awards shows. There are tons of UK programming out there, BBCA shouldn't have to broadcast non UK stuff or so many repeats.

I know that but people will complain anyway for another 3 months. Human nature.

I hope not, this is a fun thread. Some whine (like that Hutchinshouse guy :sure:), some safeguard, it’s a good mix of people.

    DBSTALK is neat.

    HD is neat.

Just checked and saw the new HBO's in HD. That's a good start. Hopefully more HD comes soon!

The new HBO channels were not even in my guide for some reason. I was able to manually get to them by typing the numbers though, then adding to favorites. Odd, I'm pretty sure HBOS and HBOF was in my favorites. Only checked the H24. Didn't look at the HR24 yet.

With elimination of, say, 10 HD PPV channels: What is the number of HDs (focused on those SDs-only assigned in the 200s and 300s, and with due recognition of Galavision HD, IFC HD, Sportsman Channel HD, Outdoor Channel HD, and The Mtn HD) that could be added to DirecTV?

You have to select them when you program your favorites list.

It's weird that HBO Family has the HD box in its program descriptions but HBO Signature doesn't. HBO Zone never has either.

I may sound like a jackass, but I haven't subscribed to HBO since I first got DirecTV in '05. The only reason is because HBO Comedy was never carried. HBO-C is the only real channel I miss from having cable, but I am not going to have D* and cable simply because of one channel.

The only other channel I would like to see is Comcast Sportsnet Philadelphia. I am a Philly native and it is a shame that CSN Philly is not in the Sports Pack montage like most other cities.

So aside from those two. My vote goes to History International, Investigation Discovery, BBCA, and TruTV. But I am not going to throw a fit and drop D* because those channels weren't added. Unless D* gets rid of the subscription sports packages, I am not likely to leave unless absolutely necessary.

I don't see adding more HD premium channels as a plus since many of us don't sub to these movie channels..

I want to see more non-premium national HD channels added..

    History International HD
    BBC America HD
    TCM HD
    AMC HD
    HLN HD (aka CNN2)
NASA TV HD (apparently it's free to carry!!)

Come on, D*.. please add some HD channels that we've been asking for for a long time.

Hopefully they'll be added in Q2. SR said they would be "TBD".

Scanned ahead on Sig and Fam HD for days and saw nothing but old crap I'd already seen. But then I stumbled across "The Kid Stays in the Picture" which I'd been wanting to see. So maybe there'll be one show a week worth watching on these two. Whoopdedoo.
