On my list, such as it is, would be:

    Sundance
    Ovation
    Fuse
    FMC
    CSPAN 1
    CSPAN 2
    CSPAN 3
    CNN International
    Al Jazeera

I also imagine we will get Fox Sports 1 on launch, or shortly thereafter.

Fox Sports 1 is just a rebranded Speed, which we already have.

From what I've heard, it's a bit different than the Speed channel we're used to.

Speed has started running an animated logo advertising the change on August 17th. It will be a different, less motorsports oriented format ... but it is not a "new channel" in the sense that a place will need to be found on a satellite to carry it.

I think you misread what I wrote.

... it is not a "new channel" in the sense that a place will need to be found on a satellite to carry it.

They should work on getting Galavision HD as they added UDN HD (Univision Deportes Network HD) same Univision affiliate,
And I will keep on saying that I want beIN Sports Spanish HD, also ESPN DeportesHD and Fox DeportesHD.

I was looking at my area Comcast's channel lineup. I also checked out another one's as well. It's nice that DirecTV offers up some foreign language programmers' linear high definition: Univision, Univision Deportes, Telefutura, and Time Warner Cable Deportes, I think Galavision is coming; but it's a matter of whether it arrives before D14. (I don't think it will.)

I have a feeling DirecTV will have to pay little to nothing to carry EWTN HD

But even channels that are free to retransmit cost money in terms of bandwidth. There is not infinite capacity on the satellites. The cost of providing a channel must be offset by additional revenue that will come in because the channel is available. I might be wrong, but I do not think that the addition of EWTN in HD will be as big of a draw in terms of new or retained subscribers as the addition a multitude of other potential channels that might occupy that space on the satellite.

As opposed to The Home Shopping Channel HD? I watch EWTN several times a day. I rarely watch any of the shopping channels. Al Jazeera should bring in the subscribers !rolling

The shopping channels bring in revenue since they pay the providers either directly for carriage or via commission on purchases made by their subscribers.

I believe they are a "public interest" channel that pays for the bandwidth they have now. Channels that pay their own way would be a cheap add. Channels that lead to profit would be a better add.

I would love to see some regional news channels, like NECN for New England area, or Channel 13 for Orlando area.

We've had a National PBS feed for many years (around channel 379) but it's not been offered in HD on D*. I'm surprised that this still is only offered in SD.

In reading most of the channels people (customers) are asking for most seem to fit in the "niche market" and have smaller broad interest. Personally on the top of my list for Nat'l channels would be The Hub outside of that I am holding out hope that come Labor Day Weekend we hear that Pac 12 and DirecTV had come to an agreement to carry Pac 12 Networks in some form.

Also seems many of the channels like Pac 12 Networks are channels that DirecTV doesn't currently have deals in place with or has a deal for minimal distribution not on a Nat'l level.
