Does anyone think the next satellite launch — in whatever month of 2013 — will bring in the 40-plus standard-definition-only "basics" in hi def? (And would DirecTV deliver?)

Yes, someone does! :nono2: Not me, because what channels are carried in HD is way more complicated than carrier space, more involved than just the [ever increasing] fees being demanded by content providers. Also, I'd hardly call them all "basics". Some are very very niche.

It's been discussed at great length.

Well, who knows...maybe. One thing I can tell you with some degree of Certainty is that Fargo still wont get their HD locals.

Why even bother wasting money on a satellite launch if your not going to add more HD. Your making a killing as is.

D*TV is focused on: 3D, PPV, Sports, and Spanish programming. That is not where I'm focused, and I have become tired of waiting for HD channels that never arrive (ie. BBCA, AMC, TCM, etc.)

So - after several calls to D*TV retention, they will be getting one last call to turn off my service - because I have already ordered a VIP 922 and Dish Network, that carries all the HD channels I desire, and I will be paying $30. less per month for a year, and then $10. less, and I will be happier.

So - it's goodbye to D*TV forums and hello to Dish forums - and I hope enough people do this, so that D*TV changes its direction back to listening to their customer base. I have been a long-time DirecTV customer, since USSB days actually, but no more - starting on June 1.

Good luck with getting the new HD channels you want on DirecTV. Or, you could join me and get the channels you want - from the competition.

I would check out their upcoming XIP multiroom system when it comes out. Looks pretty sweet, and it will use the HD interface.

We’ll trade you 10 RSN and 10 PPV channels for 1 basic HD channel. We’ll even throw in the active channel.

    Sincerely, Good luck!

I had Dish and went for the sports coverage and MRV on Direct. Some say there is a noticeable lower quality picture difference for there HD. I could not tell myself but found I needed glasses so that may of been a factor in not seeing the difference.
The DVR's went way up in monthly fees also and made it not cheaper by any means over the slightly higher package prices on Direct. Something to check into do they have MRV yet so you can reduce the high DVR fees.

well, I'll let you know if Dish is blurry HD. I doubt it.

But I did say to the Dish Rep that I reserve the right to refuse upon seeing the quality. She said that is uncommon.

    But - we'll see.

Make sure you are aware of the HD channels you will be losing.

I have both and watch Directv for MLBHD. All the other viewing is via DISH and the picture quality is the same...and better for numerous channels on DISH including BBCAMERICA, TCM, G4, TRU, AMC, COOKING, E!, NATGEOWILD, OWN, INVESTIGATION DISCOVERY, etc.
