I am highlighting this one.... Cox 4 in San Diego is, as you may have guessed, owned by Cox Communcations. Up until 2010, Cox blatantly refused to grant DirecTV, Dish, AT&T and FIOS access to Cox 4, and they kept it as a bargaining chip: Gotta have cable to watch your Padres play!

It wasn't until almost a year ago that Cox was more or less forced by the FCC to also allow other networks access to Cox 4. Whether a deal has been signed between DirecTV and Cox, I don't know.... but since the FCC doesn't say anything about it being SD or HD, I would not be surprised that a Cox deal with DirecTV would only include the HD version at a ridiculously high price. Which would mean San Diego customers are indeed stuck at SD.

It's not always a "OMG DirecTV is not giving the HD version" type of situation.... in this case, Cox is a snake, a rat, and a corporate lawyer all rolled into one, and THEY are pretty much the only cause why DirecTV doesn't carry Cox 4 in HD.

They may have given themselves a week extra in case of problems. After all, if they had said the 18th, and then on 19th it isn't live because there are technical problems..... they look bad. :(

If they however say the 25th, and then it is launched live on the 18th, or maybe the 20th or so after overcoming some technical difficulties, they look good. :)

Same reason we don't have CSN Philly.

    Winters,...
I wouldn't be too surprised if Comcast is a bit sticky in some local areas, like Philly and the NW.. We're lucky here, getting all of Comcast in HD for Sharks, Giants and Niners (and I suppose Raiders and A's, though I dunno and don't care).

Those stations, together with Cox, leaves only a handful of niche "sports". I don't consider fishing a sport, but a recreation. YMMV...... And many Outdoor activities aren't sports.

I don't think it is D*'s fault regarding Cox 4 San Diego.

And I believe it won't be long before the Padres, Chargers Insider shows, and San Diego State games are on FSN and thus readily available on D*.

On the other hand, E* may have more basic HD as of right now. But they don't have the YES or MLB Network.... or NFL Sunday Ticket.

The D* vs. E* argument is so tired and stupid, I can't believe it keeps coming back.

Can we start a Coke vs. Pepsi thread?

    A Schick vs. Gillette thread?

D* has strengths, more than E* in my mind - and, therefore my wallet.

But if I condemned E*, it would be no different than saying, "I like Coke, and you are stupid if you like Pepsi".

It's none of my business what you like or don't like.

Insipid arguments here about D* vs. E* diminish an otherwise great resource.

I'm a D* customer since '95. Every so often I'll call and politely ask if they have any specials. Usually it will be something like a movie channel for 3 months. I was wondering if dish had offers like this. Just curious.
