I know. Kinda makes me wonder what the heck is going on at D
Free previews happen all the time. I'm not sure why anyone would think it would coincide with channel additions all of a sudden.
I still find it hard to think D* isn't ready for more HD. Has to be something besides equipment issues. I feel its just not a big thing for them right now, why I don't know. It's like their thinking is hey, were making money as is so why change.
Imagine 20x$100,000 just sittin' on the shelf waiting for the next contract to be signed...
And that is just one piece of the equipment that I had an old price on. Sure that price has likely gone down... or was I misremembering and it was $150,000?
And the manufacturers don't just have these sittin' on their shelf either. Well, maybe not quite that many. They take a little time to build.
We're so used to buying our stuff and having it the next day, these ain't that.
I'm also very familiar with racking and stacking hardware. You don't build out three production racks in a production center in a day. The cable runs often take the longest time--especially when you have stuff that needs to be extremely highly available. Everything is checked, double checked, and then a supervisor checks again.
So I'm pretty sure DIRECTV wants these new channels. At least the people I talk to all do.
HBO/Max is initiating the free preview. At least DirecTV, Dish Network, Verizon Fios and Cox cable are participating. There may be other systems on board, but not all areas will participate.

Don't try so hard.
D* doesn't have a Prime Membership?
Oh, I'm sure they do.
But Amazon doesn't stock these in a fedex warehouse just waitin' to go.
Dang it. From "it's already in the Q ready to launch", to "a deal has yet to be done". Bummer!
Well they did add 2 HBO channels 2 weeks ago so kinda makes sense. However, there's an HD Extra freeview going on right now, but no new channels have been added to it since October 18 (Sony).
Maybe it's more about pleasing investors, the previous 2 HBO additions almost seemed forced, like they had to get them up before the end of the quarter or the fiscal year end?? The investors need to be pleased before the masses. And I'm sure at the beginning of the fiscal certain channel additions are projected and maybe expected? Or maybe I'm just really over tired and need some sleep as I'm starting to sound like I know something about beans and how they are counted...
And maybe all our "anticipating" aint worth a hill of "beans"! Sorry for that, I really am tired...Goodnight all!
Now we know why D* can't afford new HD channel carriage. They paid Chairman Michael White $32.9 million last year. He sure was worth it. Thanks for the ZERO HD-LILs, Mikey. Thanks for no AMC/BBCA/CW HD. You sure as hell earned that bonus.
Give it up, guys. The money's all gone. Mikey had to buy another island.
You may be onto something Maruuk.....Nobody is worth that amount of Money!
Did they get one of those Bailouts
Who cares how much D*'s CEO makes? Let's just say it's way more than any of us will ever see in our lifetimes.
He's just stating why we can't Anticipate much more HD.....they can't afford it
And he's completely wrong. Financially speaking, DirecTV is above & beyond fine. Their quarterly reports are there as proof.
Mike has clearly done a great job with DIRECTV. His goal is to make money for the stockholders, not give us HD. Now, is $32+ million overkill for one man for one year’s work? Hell the F yes!
That aside, do I want more HD, is DIRECTV beyond long overdue for basic HD? Hell the F yes!
Mike has done a terrific job. DirecTV performed extremely well for stockholders and brought us new HD channels, products, and features.
