Are you sure? Because my mommy said it was all about me.

On another note, the new theory, to replace "the sky is falling" is that D* wants to follow these threads to amuse themselves. So we aren't getting new HD because they don't want to shut any of us up.

As wild theories go, it is no worse than others.

This smiley is here to cover the entire, non serious, post. :D

Or lack thereof? The evidence tells us otherwise...

I anticipate that when we get new HD channels, and I have no doubt that we will, that I will not have any time to devote to many of them. I am a premier subscriber, also sub to EI, ST, NBA LP and the Hd extra pack, or whatever it is called, and can only watch a small percentage of what I would like to now. I am counting down the 20 months until my retirement at the end of 2012, and hope to increase my viewing by 200% then, but I still anticipate that I'll probably only be able to watch 30% of what I would like to. Imagine that, with an additional 50 some hours available!

Right now I am watching the Twins and Rays on the 50" Sammy Plasma, and the O's and Indians on my new LG 42" LCD. It's tough, but fun. My wife, who is a week out from hip replacement surgery, just called my cell phone from upstairs where she is watching a shopping channel. She wants me to make some popcorn, so off I go after pausing both games.

Just color me a very happy DIRECTV customer.

You cannot compare the negotiations between Rainbow Media and Comcast to the negotiations between Rainbow Media and DirecTV. The closest we can get is DirecTV vs Dish, but even then you have different terms, conditions, and circumstances.

You got that right...D* has Zero ability

...and you have no idea what types of issues have arisen in those negotiations. It's probably not as simple as you would like to believe.

I'm sure its not as complicated as you make it out to be. If D* really wanted the HD, they would find a way to get it.

You just argue for the sake of arguing. No matter how much it defies logic and common sense.

Don't know about the rest of you but I miss the time when we were mostly anticipating D12 getting in place and all the goodies (national HD channels) we thought would be forthcoming.

That seems so long ago now. Sorry, I don't see much purpose for these quarterly threads anymore other than whatever value might come from the festivus tradition of "the airing of grievences."

Looks like alot of negotiations has to go on. At D* pace we will never see most of those.
No I don't argue just for the sake of it, just call it as I see it. APB pretty much said it all.

Common sense tells us that the deals are more complicated, not less complicated. Do you have anything to add to the discussion?

Several things that seem to have gotten lost in the discussion around adding more national HD channels:

    1) Having a channel in HD does not improve the content itself - just its presentation - so yes....ratings come into play.

    2) Just because one carrier decides to add a certain HD channel here and another there doesn't make them any kind of market "consensus" - each carriage agreement is unique, and most are coming "packaged", so the overall offerings will vary by provider.

    3) Overall more HD channel choice is a good thing - all in favor of having plenty of choices. There are alot now, with more coming.

    4) The broadcasting/content/carriage arena is a new world in 2011. Just over the past 6 months alone, alot has changed (Comcast buying NBC Universal is just one thing on that list). This impacts pricing, ratings, availability, and other things that go into signing a long-term commitment to transmit new content. Comparing things now to anytime beyond 6 months ago in the past is simply irrelevant - things have changed tremendously - enough so that Congress is watching things more carefully.

I look forward to seeing what rolls out based on SatelliteRacer's forecast over the next 2-4 weeks, as well as the remainder of 2011. I anticipate (the theme of this thread) that we'll see a number of new offerings that include some of the key channels "popular" with posters here.

I am enjoying High Plains Drifter on AMCHD. You see, my cable company has it.

Not looking for a argument but how does one enjoy viewing a movie on AMC with the amount of commercial interruptions, editing and time compression?

I certainly don't enjoy the commercials but I'd rather watch HD with commercials than SD without. :D

    We there yet?

    This thread is a hoot.

Once we're done talking about the difficulties of adding HD, maybe we can talk about HD DIRECTV added.

It's difficult to launch the space shuttle, somehow NASA gets it done. Let's stop the excuses and add basic HD.

I remember the days when DIRECTV dominated all HD categories.

The giant has fallen and has yet to get back up (because it's too difficult).

    Soon!

Give him the benefit of the doubt. It may not be the way you or I enjoy our movies, but AMC's commercials provide an opportunity for frequent bathroom/fridge breaks. Some people may appreciate that.

Some of us don't think about it that much. In my case if it's something I like I'll watch it. I don't care if it's HD or SD that much. I just watch what I want when it's on. ;)
