Again there is not a lot to launch right now. Not of any major interest from a vast majority of viewers or anything at all that is a must have.

All I see is channels I've never heard of, and a ton of Premium West Versions.
    But the Spanish versions?
I'm not sure I follow, can't you just change the audio to SAP? Or are the totally different channels than the English version?

From the list I saw, I'll be honest, maybe 5 -10 more would be nice to have, but we already pay out the back side with what we have now, Directv will have the premier pack at $199 before long.

Summary dismissal isn't a very compelling argument.

Wasn't it last year that the Viacom agreement was renewed? Why didn't that bring the trio that's been rolling out to cable companies pretty frequently lately? MTV2 HD, Nick JR HD, Nicktoons HD.

I also got a chance to see Epix HD (there's a few of them in HD actually) on TWC and I have to say there were some pretty decent movies. It was new to TWC so I learned that being new it was free for 3 months, but after that I believe they will charge an extra fee like 6.99 or something. I don't know but maybe DirecTV should put it in the HD extra pack to increase that value.

Not the most exciting additions, but I noticed the Turner owned networks have begun adding HD VOD content recently.

    1245 TNT (majority in HD)
    1246 TruTV (limited HD content)
    1247 TBS (majority in HD)
1256 TCM (Not filled out...yet; was 1 HD program on 6/16, more likely to be coming "soon")
1296 Cartoon Network (limited HD content)
    1298 Boomerang (limited HD content)
1886 Adult Swim (limited HD content)

At the time of this posting, no HD content has been added to CNN On Demand (1202).

From that list there is not a lot to get excited about. Must be an old list, as DTV has a quite a few of them that are listed as not carried on DTV.
What I could get excited about is access to the West feeds of local channels or a three or four hour delayed feed of my locals. Preferably the former for the rare storm, breaking news, or if the President decides to interrupt my shows. If it was the latter we would still have to put up with the last 2.

It's an incredibly old list. Here's the more recent one that was last updated a few days ago (title not updated): http://www.avsforum.com/forum/34-hdtv-programming/1462894-official-avs-national-hd-channel-lineups-cable-dbs-fiber-iptv-updated-4-24-14-a.html

I think that went on in 2012. We received TV Land HD in January 2013. That was added with about seven other HDs. (Only one, Encore Action HD, was a premium.) A contract reached in 2012 between DirecTV and another company was in April with Starz Entertainment LLC. That was to expand Starz and mainly Encore programming, which would include IndiePlex, RetroPlex, and MoviePlex. We DirecTV subscribers still have not seen any of that manifest with the current DirecTV channel lineup.

And Charter has Encore East/West HD, Encore Action HD, Encore Black HD, Encore Classic HD and Encore Suspense HD.

So does most of Time Warner Cable. So does Bright House Networks.

Cable has passed DirecTV by on HD.

This is why I think its bandwidth. Hate to say that, but with contracts renewed recently and little benefit from it, I think they are holding out until D14 is operational.

All the encore channels in HD is quality IMHO. DirecTV has fallen behind and at a really bad time. Add that with AT&T buying them and a lot of animosity towards that company as a whole and I think people will leave.

It's the only explanation that makes sense. That April 2012 agreement was two years ago. It also helps to get us to understand the stalling on expansion of national sports programmers. Yes, I know people want to talk about the details regarding some nationals and multi-regionals, and why such specific ones have not been added by DirecTV, but your point about "bandwidth" says enough about why the provider is significantly behind.
