I have no interest in the PMs, so how about we skip them and drop the subject altogether?! :D

Would that work just as well?!

    Good!

That is your opinion and that's fine. But I'm sure there are others who value HLN much more than some of the networks that you listed.

A review of the original series Copper can be found at the linked site. It comes from Tom Fontana and Barry Levinson, Emmy winning brains behind the NBC 1990s series Homicide: Life on the Street. (Levinson is the Oscar-winning director of 1988 best-picture winner Rain Man.) The addition Wednesday [08.15.2012] on DirecTV with BBC America HD is timed well. And I'm very happy the high def for BBCAM is finally available to us subscribers of DirecTV. (Nat Geo Wild HD and Disney Junior HD are also looking terrific.)

No more discussion of other members or channels we already have. Let's get back to anticipating new HD channels.

    :backtotop

BTW, I'd be really happy if we were to get DIY & H2 in HD. The remaining Encore channels would be nice too.

I did not see World Fishing Network listed as being available in the Entertainment Package. In response to the poster who considered "basic" only what is offered in the lowest priced package, I only listed programs that were available in the lowest priced DirecTV package.

As I have stated before, the value of HLN lies in the audio - not the video. I do not believe that HLN has no value, but I do believe that adding it in HD does very little to increase its value compared to many other networks.

H2 HD, available from Comcast, is one of my few “must haves.” I just entered my 3rd year as a Comcast customer with a consequent $90 increase in my monthly “triple play” bill. With Monterey HD locals now reportedly in test mode, DirecTV’s addition of H2 HD would permit me to reduce – if not eliminate – the Comcast TV package.

Additionally, I’d be extremely pleased if DirecTV ever proved able to add CSN Philadelphia.

Like you, none of the new channels interest me but I'm very happy about getting TCM. I'm sure some of the new channels will make other people as happy as I am.

While it is true that DirecTV does not carry all of the channels that are available in HD, there are still many channels that are not available in HD at all. At some point all channels will be in HD and all of the channels that DirecTV carries will be in HD, but it will not be "soon". Do not expect DirecTV or any other provider to offer all channels, though.

You do the math on which carried-by-DirecTV SD programmers have an available HD; which non-carried SD programming also have a HD; some HD-Only fare; along with brand-new or upcoming programmer [sports] launches … there are between 60 and 75 channels we could "anticipate" for high def. That is … if any one provider of cable-television programming were to strive to carry them all! (Let alone the issue of … Could they carry them all?)

To be realistic with what limitations there are with DirecTV until D14 gets launched in 2014…

The regional sports debuts, on Oct. 1, of Time Warner Cable SportsNet and Time Warner Cable Deportes immediately spring to mind. As does some others that have been frequently mentioned. And there is Pac-12 Network (seven screens!). Even in a category not among brand-new programmers, it's been reported that No. 1 cable provider Comcast is going to add ESPN Goal Line/ESPN Buzzer Beater. And when you add it up, in the area of sports (regional and national), you reach a good dozen and so. That's a lot for supposed potential. All of which are available in HD.

We still do want the basic-cable programmers' HD. The ones DirecTV assigns in the channel ranges of the 200s and 300s, along with one programmer — IFC — that isn't considered a premium but is located in the 500s. There is also one — Galavision — in the 400s.

It ultimately comes back to a priority thing.

Forum posters mentioning H2 HD, and others suggesting the likes of DIY Network HD and/or Cooking Channel HD (both owned by Scripps), along with last November's launch of TV Land HD … they're probably good estimates. I think, if those (along with Lifetime Movie Network HD which. like H2, is owned by A&E Networks) are indeed on the horizon, we can be on the lookout for their inevitable high-def additions by the end of 2012. (If not by then … no later than the end of the first quarter of 2013.)

As a complicated bonus: I would like to see programmers transform their only-in-SD into finally-they-can-be-seen-in-HD. (Current TV and Great American Country, to name two basics; and, in premium movies, there is Flix and numerous Encore screens.)

Now that BBC America HD has been added, my top 5 is:

    - Universal Sports HD.
    - Diy HD.
    - OWN HD.
    - H2 HD.
    - TV Land HD.

Or actually, it is a top 2.... with Universal Sports on top, and the other 4 in a shared silver medal spot. :D
