Marketing Ploy, yep. However I get all the HD channels in my basic cable channels for free right now. I just tune them with a Clear QAM tuner. No cable box. Just the $13 a month +/- Don't remember exactly, for no extra fee.

Basic channels vs Basic channel package. Basic package should be the lowest cost package. No matter what is in it.

Did you watch the Olympics? Delayed and cut! Having seen the series previously, I highly recommend it...cut or otherwise.

I was going to take a break from this thread... but I had to come back and answer this question since TV Land is now #2 on my list after CW HD-DNS.

To me, it's all about the original content on TV Land... "Hot In Cleveland", "The Soul Man", "Happily Divorced", "Retired At 35"... etc. I never really cared much for "The Exes."

However, quite a bit of TV Land's programming schedule is available in HD (I'm not sure how much they actually present that way). "Everybody Loves Raymond", "The King Of Queens", "That 70's Show", "The Dick Van Dyke Show", "Boston Legal", assorted movies, and assorted episodes of "I Love Lucy" (I'm not sure the entire series has been converted to HD yet).

Looking at TV Land's current programming slate, there are multiple other series that can most likely be converted to HD in time.

I don't personally have much interest in GSN being in HD. I'd like to have it, but it's pretty low on my list.

~Alan<~~~~~~~~~~~~Who better find out a way to become rich before "The Andy Griffith Show" comes to Blu-ray...

Totally understand. I'm just curious how it seems to rate above some others in terms or prioritization. Nothing wrong with that prioritization, everyone has their own tastes, etc. My wife loves TVLand as an example. It was merely a curiosity.

My first priority would be Universal Sports.

Not sure if this is even on the horizon for DirecTV though. If I had to choose, DIY and OWN would be my choices after that as far as priority goes.

Alan Gordon ended up giving my answer to TV Land HD, and it's also applicable to GSN HD. Add to that, that a HD feed makes all programming, even older SD, look good. Examples include those reruns of The Golden Girls (NBC, 1985–92) and Cheers (NBC, 1982–93) on Hallmark Channel HD.

    I am curious about something.…

I've been posting here for almost two years. And I don't know if you have ever weighted in on, say, a Top 10 list.

Here's my question for you, Satelliteracer … !

If you could solely decide on the next 10 basic-cable channels to get added — in high definition — to the lineup of DirecTV, what would they be? (This isn't counting new or upcoming sports launches.)

Doesn't matter what the channel is or what the content is: on my 46" in the living room, if it's not HD it looks like trash and I won't watch it. It's tolerable on the 32" in the bedroom and not an much of an issue on the 21" in the kitchen. The sad fact remains though that SD on DirecTV is just awful.

With that said: still waiting for my HD LiLs. Next on the list would probably be the Encore stations, DIY and H2. Aside from those, everything else is just icing on the cake.

Both for the same reasons others have mentioned.

And some of us are still puzzled as to why we don't have GSN HD yet being that D* owns 60% of the channel, yet your competition has it in HD.

Or is this a hint of channels to come? ;)

Normally, there would be no point, however, in the bitstarved, downconverted, channel packed realm of Directv standard def, I see a big point.

Again, to me, it is all about the original programming...

As I stated also, most of the shows on TV Land are already available in HD, and multiple other shows will most likely be converted in the next few years... though they may not be airing on TV Land by then.

Also, none of my local channels show any of those shows... ;)

Fourth of all... Mostly new original programming is great, but I have less than 0% interest in HLN, 2% interest in ID, and while I would like to have H2, I do not have Series Links set up for it like I do with other channels that I watch regularly.

Everybody has different tastes. Everybody I know watches programming on TV Land, many I know watch programming on H2, and I can think of a few that enjoy ID, but I can't think of a single person who watches HLN outside of folks on here. It's obviously got some vocal fans, and I hope they get it in due time, but it proves that everybody's taste is different.

The keyword in my post was mostly. If a channel has mostly off-network reruns, I don't want it. If it has mostly original / live shows, I want it.

Also, I don't care what your friends/relatives watch/don't watch either, and I don't see how that info is relevant to this discussion.

Awww you didn't want BBC America? 1 Original show right now, Copper. :D
The rest is all reruns. Granted, they are re-run from British Networks we can't get, but still.... :D

But your opinion should be meaningful to him? He just stated his position. Whether or not you agree with it is irrelevant to the discussion as well.

Ouch. That's not a very good review.

And if we're doing Top 5 HD Wish Lists.... here's mine

    1. H2
    2. DIY
    3. Ovation
    4. FMC/FXMovies
    5. Something new for the HD+ Pack like the Africa Channel or Epix

Changing gears a bit, I've long been surprised that Directv hasn't expanded their HD offerings for the Spanish language market. I would think that there would be some money to be made there with their growing % of TV viewers. The Spanish broadcasters like Telemundo now get just as good a ratings as CBS, ABC, FOX and especially NBC.

    That's nice.

I want all current carried SD channels to have an HD channel available if one exists.

Until that happens, my personal interest is to have all the programming I watch available to me in HD, so I don't have to watch it in SD.

I personally care what your friends/relatives watch/don't watch. It may not affect my wishlist personally, but I still care...

As for how that information is relevant? Well... Not everybody likes the same thing. I was just using an example...

Well, if it was shot on video it won't help as much, but not everything was. And TCMHD certainly shows (for many of us, anyway) how much of an improvement upconverted SD content with good bitrates can be vs typical D* SD fare.

And like Alan said. . .TV Land is doing original content now too, and have been for a couple years.

I stated MY opinion and MINE ONLY. However, he stated his opinion then "backed it up" with those of a bunch of people who none of us know and aren't members of this site. I'm sick of the popularity contests on here.
