    First post! Yes!

    Anyway, my list:

    1. Cooking Channel
    2. DIY
    3. Universal Sports
    4. H2
    5. My locals (any second now....)
If/When I get these, I'll be able to never watch a moment of SD again.

Welcome to the forums. I hope you enjoy your stay here. It's very informative and keeps you up to date, when watching DBS Satellites.

The closest to me is Atlanta... the tower is probably around 115 or so miles from me. I can receive signals in the 100s from the Tallahassee, FL stations 73 miles from me, and I've probably picked up the Ion affiliate late at night on a few occasions, but I wouldn't be able to watch it usually, so I'll be happy with the DirecTV addition. :)

To bad about Encore Westerns. They seem to have a number of classic western television shows, like Gunsmoke and Bonanza, that have been restored. Eventhough, the early Gunsmoke episodes are in Black and White, the detail is stunning. Some of those classic western movies have also been restored. It would be an excellent addition to the HD Universe, if they would broadcast it, in HD. FLIX also seems to be a natural, with many 70's and 80's movies being available in HD.

My wife and I are of the right age to remember/appreciate the 1970s TV version of "How the West Was Won" with James Arness and a young, pretty (so says the wife) Bruce Boxleitner. . . and a host of the best of 1970s character actors in guest roles. Deucedly hard to find anywhere. Encore Westerns showed a good chunk of it a few months back on Saturday mornings. Even I broke my "No SD!" guideline for that.

There has been an extensive rollout of Telemundo HD LiL in many cities in the past few weeks. But the East and West network feeds of Telemundo (406 and 407) are still in SD. Same goes for the Univision west feed.

I am waiting to see if D* would carry the Spanish Lakers channel in HD. If that happens then I suspect a few more Spanish HD channels such as Galavision, ESPN Deportes, Fox Deportes and possibly beIN sport dos would launch in tandem.

Then again, I don't know about the remaining transponder space on 119.

So who has the most HD channels now? I looked at James list, But he left out all of Directvs RSN's and still doesn't have Rainbow media channels under, ( Directv Carries, But dish does not) section.

Total available HD channels depends on the market you are in obviously. I am in the Phoenix market thankfully and get virtually every HD channel DirecTV offers. If the channel is in SD it is not worth my time, well except for TeenNick. DirecTV should have a lower priced all HD package so I don't have to pay for SD crap I will never watch.

"Basic" is awfully close. If you include Premiums and Sports, DirecTV is way ahead of Dish.

Total numbers are pretty irrelevant now. What is relevant is which service has the most HD channels you want to WATCH and how much those channels cost after adding the package price to the extras pack prices.

For me personally, that is currently Xfinity, but they are lacking a couple I watch on DirecTv (AXS, 101) and DirecTv is lacking a few I watch on Xfinity (H2, HLN, Local subchannels).

As far as basic channels, its pretty darn equal across major providers now, though. With about 8 more additions, and rolling the HD Extra pack into the Ultimate package (which will never happen), DirecTv would be equal to Xfinity in program pricing.

Because my use of the TCM avatar worked so well in getting what I wanted, I'm willing to rent my avatar space to the highest bidder for the desired HD channel of his/her choice. I hope to make enough to buy a pack of gum. Either that or I'll think of what I want next. :)
