Will GOLTV be available as a stand alone channel or is it gone for good?

From what I understand GOLTV will be removed. This could open up a slot though for beIN Spanish to go fulltime HD.

I'm sure that a lot of people think what they get on MTV between bong hits is news, but there are a lot of us who care about what the political clowns are up to. C-SPAN should be HD already. 2 & 3 as well, but I'd settle for plain old C-SPAN in HD right now.

If there is anything more bloviated than a politician, it's a pundit talking over the speech that people are actually tuning in to see. Which is what happens on Fox, CNN & MSNBC.

Only if they out BeIN Spanish on the main birds. Right now, the SD channel is not on 101. It is with the international channels, which is where I would expect BeIN Spanish HD to go.

I think BeIN English took the slot Gol was giving up. There was just some overlap.

Didn't realize that TALK had to be HD to learn from it. You are expounding that it is useful because it is news, but it is just talk. It doesn't even need pictures.

News channels like Fox, CNN, MSNBC, show things that benefit from pictures. Things like explosions and crowds and tornados and snowstorms. And they often use the space for more data.

CSPAN could use shadow puppets and you get the same information. Unless you want to base your opinions on the texture of the senior senator from Colorado's suit and tie texture.

Of course the action is so low, they could stick all three CSPANs in the left over space on a six channel transponder.

It's just an information channel though. You could LISTEN to C-SPAN radio and get exactly the same information as you do through the TV channels.... Most of the time C-SPAN features someone standing somewhere talking in a microphone, and that really doesn't need to be in HD in my opinion.

At least on CNN they got nifty technology such as the "magic map" that looks better in HD. :D :D

I could say the same thing about football for all I care about football. That would save a LOT of DirecTV bandwidth.

Why dump on other people's faves? The whole POINT of DirecTV is to have something for everyone.

You missed the point. Football is a GRAPHIC entity. If two football players stood stock still and talked, then it would be the same.

We are not talking about viewing preferences as much as what benefits from different technologies. And CSPAN does not benefit as much from hi def as almost every other channel out there. Heck, even a channel with stationary text all over the screen benefits more because the text can be sharper and more of it and easier to read. CSPAN doesn't even have intensive graphics.

How about campaigning for CSPAN3 in SD? THAT would be of more benefit than upgrading the others to HD.

If you enjoy watching a channel, and I enjoy watching C-SPAN and C-SPAN2, then you will enjoy it more in HD. It's that simple. I don't care if it's the Paint Drying Channel. It will be more enjoyable to watch in HD than SD.

What's so hard about this fact to understand?

Priorities, though. We are dealing in a world of priorities. If everything were in HD, fine, but it is not and it will not be for some time.

And there was no "entertainment" message in the post we were replying to. It was about getting information. Who said you are supposed to "enjoy" congress?

So I can't anticipate it? I can't want it? I can't request it? This argument has gotten all out of hand.

You anticipate your channels, Tony. I'll anticipate mine.

    Sheesh!

It is not that they are dumping on CSPAN - they are just pointing out that the value of CSPAN is in the audio and not in the video. I would be happy if they dropped the audio from football and basketball and just showed the video. The same cannot be said for CSPAN, though. CSPAN without audio would be meaningless, but CSPAN without video would be just as good as CSPAN with video.
