So Verizon Fios is Royal Crown, Time Warner is Shasta, and ATT Uverse is Moxie?
Of course, said cable provider is also the owner of the RSNs in question, as well as the near monopoly provider of cable service in those teams' market areas. Ergo, Comcast has enormous incentive to ask a prohibitive amount of money for retransmission rights...why remove a major obstacle to Philly sports fans becoming DirecTV customers?
Look at what they did with New York Sportsnet - it launched on DirecTV from day one. Why? Because Comcast doesn't have nearly the saturation in the NY area that have around Philadelphia. (Besides DirecTV not wanting to lose Mets fans.)
Not for Philly sportsfans!
My rooftop VHF/UHF antenna i was using almost up to the abolishment of analog. Mainly for my stereo for am/fm and occasional WB17 and FOX29 tv shows cleanup since sports were so seldom on those stations anymore...then one day in 2005 I got nothing but snow...I went upstairs and there was an initiative to remove all antennas as the landlord saw them unfit for the building...Later on he gives the OK for satellite dishes as long as they're not on our windows or on the roof facing the front of the building...Put my D* dish where my antenna was which was in the back and its been there ever since....
I was robbed of my super duper antenna, those indoor antennas for stereos dont cut it!
around NYC Time Warner is tobacco spit.
Cablevision is moonshine acetone.
Comcast is Illegal Coors bootlegging since its not anywhere in the 5 boroughs..
RCN is Phu Yuk (look that up from a james bond movie)
and anyone that has satellite is divided by 2 drinks
always interfered by rain
If you have D* you're a beer with Pizza & Pretzles
if you have E* your a fine wine with Zebra Pajamas & Bunny slippers
My point exactly! How could Coke (D*) not even try to sell their product in the 4th largest soda drinking (media) market in the country, and let Pepsi (Comcast) have a near-monopoly on it???? They're either incredibly stupid, incredibly lazy, or incredibly insane!
They do sell it in Philadelphia....they carry the Philly locals, in HD. They just DON'T try to sell it to Flyers, 76ers or Phillies fans.
D* stole Pepsi's CEO when they should have stolen Coke's, then maybe we'd have as many basic HD channels as Comcast.
Well... I read some more good news regarding my HD want list yesterday.
As many of you may remember, I have been requesting CW HD-DNS rather heavily due to the fact that I live in a 100+ market and my local CW affiliate is an SD sub-channel that provides a CW Plus feed. Since it's been over a year since I asked, I contacted the station to see if they have any plans to offer an HD feed to cable/satellite, and I was pleased to hear that HD plans have been made, as The CW is now providing an HD feed to CW Plus affiliates.
Sadly, I was not able to receive a timetable, so CW HD-DNS will continue to remain at the top of my want list until that happens, and even after, but much further down the list. Not to mention that even after it launches, goodness knows if DirecTV will carry it since DirecTV has yet to carry our local ABC affiliate in HD, but I will remain hopeful!
Does anyone know of a good way to request or nag DirecTV regarding local channels? You know, besides calling them up on the phone and asking the CSR to forward a note. I'd LOVE to be able to request our ABC affiliate, and The CW when it eventually launches in HD.
On a unrelated note, I'm wishing I had more details regarding the transition as it almost sounded to me like the local affiliate was wanting to broadcast The CW in HD on the sub-channel ALONG with the HD broadcast of CBS, and the SD feed of MyNetworkTV. Holy compression artifacts, Batman!! :eek2: Unfortunately, I can't get any more information out of the local affiliate, and the corporate owner (Gray Television, Inc.) doesn't have an e-mail aside from the shareholders one...
Now bring on potential good news regarding BBCA and TV Land!
Can you not get those OTA?
Comcast still does not have big ten ALTs in HD or more then 2 MLBEI / NHLCI HD channels (shared) and more then 1 MLSDK / NBALP HD channels (shared) and that is not even in all systems.
Also only 1 PPV HD events channel not in all systems.
Comcast sucks, nuff said.
Can we get :backtotop now?
How soon will TCM HD be here?
I've been through this before, but:
ABC: Yes, but the station I am referring to is SD only OTA. An HD feed is provided to cable and satcos. Dish Network and Mediacom carries it in HD and SD, DirecTV only carries it in SD. I'm lucky to receive ABC HD-DNS East & West and I am able to receive TWO additional ABC affiliates OTA that do broadcast in HD (though DirecTV's antenna setup allows one to only receive guide data from one market, so I can technically only set up recordings for one should I so desire). HOWEVER, not everybody has an AM21/AM21N, nor an antenna set up like I do, or even one as impressive as mine, not to mention that not every DVR of mine has an AM21/AM21N hooked up to it.
The CW: The station to which I was referring to is an SD sub-channel of my local CBS affiliate. The station in question has a broadcast signal that only covers a small portion of the Albany, GA DMA... so small that it doesn't even provide coverage to the City of Albany that is closer to the tower than I am, so no, I cannot receive my local CW affiliate. I can receive a neighboring market's FOX affiliate that broadcasts a CW affiliate on their sub-channel, but again, it's SD only.
Hence why I've been wanting CW HD-DNS. However, if I manage to get a local one, I'll put CW HD-DNS to the back of my want list.
Oh, and technically, I stated that I could "receive TWO additional ABC affiliates OTA that do broadcast in HD." I never said those were local... this market didn't get a local ABC until last year.
Already done on one TV, but it doesn't matter... I don't watch LIVE TV.
I agree totally. Let's hear about TCMHD or any other potential new HD channels.
Soon, July 18th or 19th.
Just "ice water" for me.
NEWS: I'm more of a print media kind of person! Besides, the local affiliates rarely cover anything about where I live, and the majority of the rest usually doesn't interest me.
SPORTS: I don't really watch sports. I'll occasionally turn on a Bulldogs game when I'm cleaning... maybe once in a blue moon, a Braves game or something, but usually, I'll listen to music. Just depends on my mood.
WEATHER: I have The Weather Channel on pretty much 24/7, but I don't really WATCH it, watch it, I just hear bits and pieces of it. I rarely watch the local weather unless there's a warning out or something.
SPECIAL EVENTS: Not really...
IMPORTANT POLITICAL STUFF: I like print media... but again, no!
The healthy alternative... well, depending on where the water came from... LOL!!
Just curious, what makes you so sure about these dates? Any news items, articles etc. that can confirm this?
So far, the only thing that I saw (but I might have missed it) was a launch date of the 19th, mentioned by a moderator on another forum who had "received some info on this". - It is linked in this topic somewhere. One could speculate that the forum in question has an "insider" more or less similar to SateliteRacer that is feeding him information.
No idea how people got to the 18th, besides the death of an actor and TCM will run a special on the 18th to commemorate him, perhaps hoping it will launch in HD before that.
