I know you can see flaws in programs like Rudolph in HD that weren't seen but if the strings for the flying monkeys are not seen in the original film, how would they be seen on a transfer?

Color changes, I can see but that has more to do with what lighting they use for the transfer.

I doubt it. I bet they just called their contact at Disney and asked about carrying Disney Jr. - Their contracts aren't up yet I think.

Also, ESPN is negotiated separately from all other ABC/Disney owned channels.

I'm betting SD only. It hasn't shown up in Sixto's reports which means it didn't go through testing on an HD satellite.

Actually, that's a question depending on what tv he has. Different 4x3 tvs could do different things with Hi Definition signals. His may force the imagine into a small box surrounded by black boarders all the way around the image when he's watching a movie that is in Hi Definition but has a 4x3 aspect ratio because it's older. So his say 36" 4x3 tv may suddenly be a 25" tv, with no way to format the screen any different. I get finding that annoying!

I would agree on SD only, but strictly speaking that doesn't mean anything. It would be possible to to launch straight to live, and they could also test the channel for say... an hour or so later tonight, and then launch it to live.

    Or VistaVision?

There were several trade names for it, but it came down to widescreen.

The Directv guide on my Android Phone and iPad show Disney Jr in SD. Too bad, was hoping for HD, as most of us do. BTW, any updates on EPIX possibly showing up anytime soon??

Epix? Well, there is this company called Viacom. Maybe you've hear of it. I think they and directv have a smashing relationship. So, any day now. ;)

HD may come later. It is obvious that they rushed the SD for the Nick Jr crowd.

Very funny......I realize they're in negotiations with Viacom. Just thought that maybe Epix could be part of a new agreement? Maybe it's just wishful thinking.

Actually, given the wording of the directv notices about packaging, it is possible the Epix is a main part of the disagreement. As far as I recall, all Viacom channels are on the basic tiers except for Palladia. Unless directv want to move some of the channels to other tiers, it would seem that Palladia and Epix are the possible sticking points.

It could be they want to move some channels to the extra tier, and then get rid of a few others like tr3s and such, and then add epic to the Hi Definition extra pack. That might make some sense from a money standpoint and helping boost up sales for the Hi Definition extra pack.

However, in the end, isn't Epix available via a subscription for streaming? If so,I think that's the kind of channel DIRECTV has little interest in gaining.

In fact, for all the channels everyone is after,I'd bet that the ones that have the most free shows online are the ones at the bottom of dtvs list of channels it thinks is worth picking up.

    I agree overall.

Epix is available for streaming but it is not free. That is like saying Dish has it so Directv doesn't want it. Directv seems to be complaining about free content on the Internet.

Well it depends on how it's offered.

If they offer epix on a a la car basis for price x via streaming, and then only want DIRECTV to offer it in a regular package rather than as a premium, then yeah, there is a big difference. If they will Let it be in a premium package by itself and only take money for it from the people who sub then that's not really an issue IMHO, but if they are saying it need to be in a package with other channels, then that's what I think DIRECTV should and would have an issue with. They'd be paying for a channel at a higher rate than what they'd have to pay for it as a premium.

Maybe, either that or have it stand completely alone. Any other way is unacceptable IMHO.
