wow, just wow. NOW THAT'S WHAT I CALL A FESTIVUS :) BBCA and beInSports1! NGWHD is also a decent channel and little one will love Mickey Mouse ClubHouse in HD, too!

Satelitteracer, please ask the powers to be at Directv to add the spanish version of the sports channels to the sports pak! Fox Deportes even has a SAP in English but, to me at least, soccer/football can be in mandarin or greek and I'd still watch - heck, I have watched a soccer match in cantonese :)

Seriously, hoping and praying that both BeIN1 & 2 end up as part of the Spanish language packages so I don't have to get the Sports pack again. GolTV being still on will be icing on the cake.

I looked at the website for ION and it appears that they broadcast pretty much nothing but repeats of old network crime shows.

Disney JR. at last check max beams in 720p and not 1080 anything!!
so does ION 720p only :( it'll be interesting to see how ION fits on the map...on 305 in HD and my local LIL also?

This is a pretty big BASIC addition, have not seen the likes of this festivus since WGN/Lifetime or Hallmark and ESPNU were added.
Glad to see D* catch up !!

I love how this all snuck up on us. Three or four days ago it looked like DirecTV was adding BBCA HD, and then, we'll get NatGeo Wild in HD, too? Wow! Yesterday, through a few more hints and deductions, Ion HD seem like a distinct possibility. This morning, bonus, here's Disney Jr. HD.

Well played, DirecTV. It's great how you folks can keep a secret.

Jr was discussed yesterday too. Detective work is fun.

And SR told us more was coming.

Hopefully this is just the beginning of more good things to come. It appears that the new encoders that they are using is allowing a 6th HD channel on certain transponders with no noticable difference in quality. Has anyone came to a guess as to how much additional space that being able to compress 6 to a TP vs 5 can provide overall?
I was very surprised that they are adding Ion in HD. I wonder if it will be mapped down to the local channel like it is now, for instance in my area it is 44.

Well if ION is being added, chances are good that I may see a DNS feed of CW HD someday...

As soon as Disney Jr. started dropping off the guide, or rather, people discovered it had dropped of the guide, I had a feeling this was going to pop up today.

They put a quick SD feed up during the Viacom dispute of Disney Jr, but they simply had to do the legwork for the HD feed.

And BeIN Sports! All welcome editions in this new list of channels, and there really is something for everyone, all 5 channels draw in a different crowd!

I cannot imagine anyone NOT being pleased with this. :)

My question is shouldn't the Swanni have foreseen all of this coming?

Where's Dionne Warrick when you need her?

Is this really a big deal? I have a 1080p TV in the living room and a 720p TV in my office, and I really can't notice much of a difference. Now my eyes might be getting a little older of course....

In any case, a 720p picture looks just as great to me, really. ESPN is 720p too, and it looks pretty good.

Swanni doesn't do his own investigative journalism on channel additions. He just waits till we at DBSTalk, with or without the help of Sixto, SateliteRacer, and others figure out what is coming down the pipeline, and then he runs with it.

Next Month: Swanni will post another article on how DirecTV is lagging behind in HD and needs to do MOAR! :D
