Dose anybody have NASA in HD? I do not know if it is all that popular.
It is more than just bandwidth. Different channels are uplinked on different satellites, and the SD and HD versions aren't necessarily using the same ones. If NASA HD is uplinked on a satellite that Directv's broadcast facilities aren't set up to receive, there is some expense associated with doing that.
Someone posted some pictures of the LA broadcast center a year or two ago, including this one very large very wide dish that had several dozen LNBs. Probably isn't trivial to add another LNB to something like that, let alone if they had to add a separate dish for it.
Of course I have no idea if that's the issue - it could simply be that Directv has a schedule of things they want to get done with the launch of D14 and D15, and adding additional HD may be down the list a bit below stuff like migrating locals to D14 (which is done or nearly so) and using D15 to replace D10 (if they do it, it will probably happen in the next month, though it may not be something we have any idea is happening)
One of the things D14 & D15 provide is the channels being sent to the US are also sent to Puerto Rico, once D15 is up and running there will probably be a lot of shuffling around of which channels are on which satellite/transponder as they get the channels they want to deliver to PR customers moved onto those satellites which can do it. Once they have everything settled I think we'll see a lot of channels added very quickly - I still stand by my prediction that Directv will have substantially everything in HD by the end of this year.
That one ?
Hope you're right about all the HD additions, we'll see. I thought D15 was up and running a couple of months ago??
Just remember that Romulo Pontual, Directv's long-time Chief Technical Officer, also resigned recently. His function will apparently be taken over by someone within AT&T. That can bespeak a whole lot of turmoil....
No, it was just moved into its spot in the last few days. They are not using it yet as far as we know. It may be difficult to know for sure when it goes into active service, as most of its transponders are in use on other sats already.
Romulo Pontual was one of many DIRECTV senior executives who retired having achieved the goal of completing a sale of the company. I would not read anything particularly into his side of things.
Nor would I read too much into a new CTO necessarily representing turmoil. As that also was likely planned all along.
Lastly, I don't think Romulo was a huge influence as to which channels were added in HD. He was very influential in how much capacity was available--which he accomplished before he left.
I have to admit that I don’t feel particularly opinionated about who is now at AT&T—including overseeing the transition of U-verse and DirecTV into one. The whole controversy over Pac-12 Network—well, there I have a much stronger sense as to which of the two parties is more to blame. (Hint: I have a more positive feeling with AT&T.) So, it’s still early; but, I am hoping we do get numerous linear channels of HD (especially basic-cable ones for which we are overdue). It is, after all, the original premise of these quarterly threads. (Bring ’me in, AT&T’s DirecTV!)

Why double channel FUSE(339)directv app.

Same thing on my iPad app.
That's because they're moving fuse to D14 satellite
When new channels come out or are switched to HD, etc. is there any notice given by DirecTV or place to find out (other than this thread)? I though Directv used to have an announcement message other than the messages on info?
So, in other words, another tease?
No saying Fuse is coming to "DirecTV" in HD?!
We're waiting on transponder moves before any linear channels of HD will get added?!
How much longer will these transponder moves be playing out? One month? Two months? Three months? Four months? Five months? Six months? Seven months? Eight months? Nine months? Ten months? Eleven months? Twelve months? Thirteen months? Fourteen months? Fifteen months? Sixteen months? Seventeen months? Eighteen months? Nineteen months? Twenty months? Twenty-one months? Twenty-two months? Twenty-three months? Twenty-four months? Twenty-five months? Twenty-six months? Twenty-seven months? Twenty-eight months? Twenty-nine months? Thirty months? Thirty-one months? Thirty-two months? Thirty-three months? Thirty-four months? Thirty-five months? Thirty-six months? Thirty-seven months? Thirty-eight months? Thirty-nine months? Forty months? Forty-one months? It is easier to use the four letter word "soon".
Yes somewhere (hopefully) in those time frames!!
Do you have a source for this? And if so, what makes them say it's specifically moving to D14 as opposed to one of the free slots on D12, or that if it were to move that it will still be SD only?
i.e. when NASA went MPEG4 only, there was a specific message flat out stating it will still be SD, but in that case NASA was a P/I channel that moved to fill the quota. Fuse doesn't qualify as a P/I channel since it's an ad supported commercial channel, and I doubt the new owners of Fuse would give up that much distribution unless there's something involved that would benefit them like HD carriage or an agreement to carry their other channel NUVOtv.
NuVOtv is going to be merged with fuse and they will both be 1 channel
Will they still show LFL games?
Nope, while some of the programming is moving to Fuse, NUVOtv itself is rebranding into a music channel.
