I don't think any have expired yet. Maybe some might expire before they merge the channel lineups then renegotiate them before that happens. I think the merged channel lineups is supposed to happen by 2018 or 2019.

At the end of the last thread I had said that all I needed was Pop and LOGO but now that I think about it, I don't actually really need Pop and instead would muh rather have TVOne in HD. So yeah LOGO and TVOne for me.

DirecAT&TV signed a new contract with Viacom, who owns Logo, last October. Not sure why they haven't added Logo HD yet.

Not sure when the last CBS/Pop contract was signed.

Again, why couldn't they add the rest of the Encore HD channels now? I'm sure this has been answered, but I'm old and forgetful.

Maybe it is coming "soon" - if you notice, the logo on the info banner on TV1 is for TV1HD...

Sure, if you want to pay sticker price for the channels instead of negotiating for a better price when the station also has something to lose if you don't come to a deal... (Outside of some rare cases like new launches, you're not just negotiating for carriage of the HD feeds, package placement, sister channels, VOD, TV Everywhere/streaming rights and other things are also part of it)

And it's not only DirecTV doing this, Dish didn't add HD feeds of channels on your anticipation list until their contract was up for renewal. Meanwhile FiOS dropped WFN about two weeks ago after the contract expired because their deal was made prior to when it was a sister channel of Sportsman/Outdoor, who they already dropped.

Why do all the SD cine channels (173-196) show "To Be Announced"?? The rest of the guide shows programing.

Not experiencing your issue. Channels 173-196 display programing on my HR54-200. Between 00:00-06:00 hrs 12 July 16 programing is displayed. After 06:00hrs "To Be Announced" is displayed.

Every contract expires. Not every contract gets renewed. Sure, they could negotiate 99 year contracts but who knows how long the channel will remain worth carrying if they do not have to make a case for renewal every few years. The channels would not want to be stuck under old contracts forever.

So now everyone's experts on contracts. I was on a negotiating team for 14 years and believe me there are and aren't advantages to allowing contracts to run out. Like I said it is a choice and doesn't always need to happen. Playing hardball isn't always best strategy and many times bites you in the rear. Most often its better to start negotiating early and even redoing old contracts on terms both sides can live with. Of course Dish never does this, pulling its customer base through the mud every year.

I guess they would still have to negotiate the contracts between DTV and UVerseTV even though it looks like they are phasing out UVerseTV? Maybe AT&T thinks its easier and cheaper just to phase out UVerseTV than merge the two?

Correct. And those involved in the negotiation would know best the risk and rewards. Which is why I'd rather not insult DIRECTV or their negotiating partners with "Thay don't have to let contracts expire." Carriage contracts expire. It is the nature of the marketplace. Term contracts.

Exactly! This theory that each DTV contract must run its course before adding any new HD channels is ridiculous and just an excuse! Contracts are reopened and renegotiated everyday!

Is there a reason that when I try to go into the DirecTV mobile app it says that the app is no longer supported by Android devices
And it tells you to go to the Google Play Store and download the new one and there is no new app

This 'theory' is based on observations by people like Kyl416 who pay attention to when contracts are set to expire and get renegotiated, and have seen a strong correlation between that and HD channel additions / new channel additions.

You can call it an 'excuse' if you like, but that's how Directv and Dish (and I assume major cable providers?) have been doing things for years according to him. Sure, it is possible to renegotiate a contract when it still has several years left to run, but Directv has demonstrated they don't do this.

Especially in the current climate. DIRECTV and Dish can't raise prices as fast as channels want. So renegotiations are far more contentious than ever before.

DIRECTV never had warnings about channel blackouts, never had blackouts. Contracts used to be updated smoothly.

Now the channels want too much, DIRECTV can't squeeze much more efficiency out of their system to make up the differences, contracts don't get re-negotiated mid-stream.

    Peace,
    Tom

After comparing the two channel lineups besides the sports packages doesn't DTV pretty much have all the channels that UVerseTV does? Would they still have to do new contracts just to add the rest of the HD Channels to DTV? What if they just amended them? Wouldn't that be a faster way of adding the rest of the HD channels to DTV? Then merge the channel lineups later after the new gateway comes out?
