    tough to find this kind of info now on "tips and resources" ever since the changes. I was taking a look over the cutting edge but could not find it.

    Is the 101 MPEG 2 only?

    No. It can send any format they want. So can every satellite.

    That's because it wasn't posted. We just did a special grab on Monday when we noticed that a bunch of CINEHD channels vanished to find out what was in test. The regular weekly map will be posted tommorow.

    Why are they dropping PPV HD slots when they unused room open??

    Don't they need the PPV HD for part time stuff?

    They're not part of the pool of CINEHD channels that double as part time feeds, these are some of the last remaining CINEHD placeholders created after the last round of swaps:
    112 IACHD -> Pursuit HD
    126 CINEHD -> Sprout HD
    127 CINEHD
    128 CINEHD -> El Rey HD
    129 CINEHD
    130 CINEHD
    131 CINEHD -> Eleven Sports HD
    132 CINEHD -> AHC HD
    133 CINEHD -> AT&T SportsNet Rocky Mountain West HD
    134 CINEHD -> FXM HD
    135 CINEHD -> FS Wisconsin HD
    137 CINEHD -> Discovery Family HD
    138 CINEHD -> FS Oklahoma HD
    144 CINEHD -> Oxygen HD
    146 CINEHD -> FM HD
    167 CINEHD -> JBS (last P/I channel to be added before the start of this round of additions)
    170 CINEHD -> GSN HD
    171 CINEHD -> SBS HD
    172 CINEHD -> OAN HD

    AWE HD used the TPN slot formerlly occupied by Al Jazeera America HD. (139 and 169 were those seasonal CINEHD channels that get taken down from March-October for the MLB Game Mix)

    It also doesn't affect the total channel count, so none of those additions triggered the need for a new P/I channel to meet the quota. Now when they finish everything and start adding channels to unused slots, then they'll need at least one or two new P/I channels by the time they fill up that space.

    Yes, we'll have to wait and see. They might carry MPEG4 SD duplicates of everything on 101 - that would allow RVs to get everything with a cheap dish and preserve rain fade protection. Alternatively, they could move a bunch of HD channels to 101 and up the bandwidth/image quality of all HD channels since they'll have all that extra room.

    The only thing that's certain is there will still be a lot of SD only channels, and people in this thread will complain about every single one of them :)

    Say all they did was just keep the SD channels that didn't have a HD version of it on the 101 and the rest of the channels were in HD, the one thing that I wouldn't like about that is HD staying out longer in bad weather than SD does. I guess their still wouldn't be anything DTV could do about that if they did the way I just suggested and they would say just use their APP when HD stays out longer? That would be neat if they did a version of the DTV APP for all versions of Android TV.

    If it were up to be there would be permanent SD MPEG4 channels on 101 ... for fallback and RVs. I do not see DIRECTV abandoning RVers.

    I don't see why they wont be putting hd core stuff at 101.... And possibly on the new sat they are building now.

    The channels are definitely live now. Cox is adding all the Encore feeds (including Westerns, Espanol and Family in HD) in their markets this week, as well as Action and Black HD that they didn't previously have.

    I don't know if that means they're coming to DirecTV, however.

    Sure hope DT follows suit and adds these as well. Really enjoy Encore Westerns but not so much in SD.

    Regardless of whether 101 ends up with MPEG4 SD only or a bunch of HD, they need a new satellite there. Not because the current ones are too old (D8 has fuel life until 2034!) but because they need more flexibility. Without a new satellite they'll only gain one CONUS transponder when they shut off the spot beams from 101 instead of six, Hawaii will continue to require the big dish instead of a Slimline, and Puerto Rico will have to keep depending on D5 at 110.

    According to Stuart they're building two new satellites. Not sure where the other would go, maybe at first it will be another spare like D15 mostly is. Wish there was some information about them, be interesting to see what the payload is - especially spot beams.

    Many of the movies on the Encore SD channels can be viewed in HD via VOD. Using Your DIRECTV remote go to channel 1535 and press SELECT. Then scroll down to the desired category and press SELECT. A list of HD movies will appear. Choose the movie you want and press SELECT. You will be given two options, Watch Now or Record. Select the option you prefer, then enjoy your movie. You can do this with many other SD channels as well.

    Wishful thinking. No new HD channels today.
