Please use this thread to discuss your feelings about upcoming national HD channels.

This thread will not be as tightly moderated as the rest of the site, but here's the tradeoff...in exchange for being able to rant a bit more, you can be assured that absolutely no one at DIRECTV will be using this thread for reference.

You can ask for all the new HD you want, but DIRECTV's marketing department knows that the 100-150 contributors to this thread are only a small part of the over 20 million U.S subscribers (37+ million world wide).

*Please remember that all forum rules are still in effect.
*Please do not "bump" this thread.
*Other threads that do nothing but anticipate HD channels for which there is no information will be closed.
*This is not a DIRECTV vs. Dish thread, there are other threads for that.

Considering it's now July 6th, and there hasn't been a 3Q 2018 HD post, I think it's safe to say things are a bit dead around here.

With most of the recent launches, there's very few channels of significance left to launch in HD on DirecTV. I did see where U-Verse just got MavTV HD, so we continue to close the gaps between those two AT&T owned services.

Discovery Life, Logo, Disney west, Cartoon Network west, Boomerang, Nicktoons, Teennick, ion west, RT, FETV, BET Her, MTV Classic, Up, Newsmax, CNBC World, CW east, CW west, TVG, Cowboy and Sportsman channels are all "normal" channels that are currently SD. Not all even have HD, but certainly some of those could use an upgrade.

Then there's HBO Family west, Movie Channel west, Flix, and several of the Encore channels in the premiums. Evine, HSN, and other shopping channels have HD feeds, too, if you want to count those.

And then there's C-Span, NASA, EWTN, TBN, and many other PI channels that COULD be HD, they just aren't, but I don't feel like disturbing that hornet's nest again!

So there's plenty of HD to anticipate! Just not a lot to really get excited about.

I perceive this to be a, AT&T’s DirecTV will get around to the rest [not yet carried in HD] if it intends to do so and whenever the opportunity is there.

At the beginning of 2018, I anticipated these four:

    240 Home Shopping Network HD
    302 Nicktoons HD
    338 UP HD

    605 Sportsman Channel HD

I think they will get upgraded to high def for us subscribers. I don’t know when.

I like quite a few things that air on UP and it is one of the worst quality SD feeds possible.

Any word on Sportsman Channel HD? I figured once we got Outdoor Channel HD it would have come along with it shortly after.

And do we still need a quarlty HD thread, wouldn’t a yearly one suffice?

I would love to see epix… get tv, grit, metv, plex channels, & hallmark drama. you know, all the channels that are on dish ;-) ……my local nbc wsaz offers channel 4 which is mynetwork/metv but only show some of metv programming & replace it with older nbc shows.

I think METV became a national network that could be why Dish Network just got it so maybe DTV could get it if it is national. In St. Louis we just got METV because channel 24 got bought by Weigel Broadcasting. However, channels like GritTV, AntennaTV and Heroes and Icons are sub-channels and DTV will never carry those they don't have the bandwidth. I guess they could carry them if they became national networks and DTV got their national feeds. I think CoziTV just went national not sure on that.

It all depends on each individual market. If MeTV is on its own channel, it's a must-carry so DTV must put it on locals. They don't have to do anything with the sub channels.
