Please use this thread to discuss your feelings about upcoming national HD channels.
This thread will not be as tightly moderated as the rest of the site, but here's the tradeoff... in exchange for your being able to rant a bit more, you can be assured that absolutely no one at DIRECTV will be using this thread for reference.
You can ask for new HD all you want, but DIRECTV's marketing department knows that the 100-150 contributors to this thread are only a small part of the 18,000,000 total subscribers.
Please remember that all forum rules are still in effect, and please do not "bump" this thread. Other threads that do nothing but anticipate HD channels for which there is no information will be closed.
But how would that work out if say the cable cos go to court and get ST this year?
Let's are part of the big NBC / Comcast deal all Comcast sports nets / over flows and comcast networks / local comcast only sports go to sat / other cable systems and the cable cos get Sunday ticket.
they can also use the Supreme Court denies NFL's request for broad antitrust protection to try get ST as well.
The same rules that open up CSN Philly may also open up ST as well.
If the Supreme Court did that, they would invalidate every sports contract with every TV entity. The CSN Philly deal is because of vertical intergration. The DirecTV/NFL deal is akin to MLB being on Fox, the SEC being on ESPN Regional and CBS, the NHL being on Versus.
That would be a very broad reaching decision that would eventually invalidate any sole source contracts. Like iPhone, Pepsi products at a stadium, etc.
This channel tonight has its video blinking off and on like a black screen blinks in and out but it doesnt effect the audio at all.I havent noticed it doing this before.Anyone else noticed it?.Its irritating.

The List:
1. G4 (All original programing)
2. BBC America (Top Gear/Friday Night with Jonathan Ross)
3. AMC (Rubicon/The Walking Dead)
4. HBO Premiums (HBO Signature/HBO Family/HBO Comedy)
These are the only ones that I would consistently watch. Any other additions are great but I would only check them out once in awhile.

still hoping for FSC and FSP HD...especially after watching all the world cup matches in HD this summer. Directv really needs these channels by Aug 8, or the 14th at the latest!!! Having them in HD would really take the sting out of the $14.99/mo for FSP.
anyone have inside info on these? yes they are coming, no they are not? are they negotiating or is directv simply not interested?
I am not a troll, but someone asked for the HD list of Comcast. I have a mindmap that probably shows more thought into this process than 98% of customers (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/360607/dtv.png) (that version is out of date) and I solved my wiring issue, so we were all set to go get a DVR demo when I ran into the missing AMCHD issue. My wife counted our channels (no math) and we get 90 HD. DirecTV says you get 45 free HD, but I've come to find that their list is incomplete to say the least. Let's just say the DirecTV site isn't the best
So I found a DirecTV listing guide for my area, and compared it to my Comcast listing. Here is what I found, with summary at the bottom:
There is no such thing as a "Comcast list", is a major part of the problem. Not in terms of what every Comcast customer in every part of the country has available to them, and the differences are well beyond "non trivial" in many cases. In my neighborhood, for instance, "World of More", which is required to get anywhere near the best of what Comcast offers, still isn't in place (tho will be shortly), and actual-today HD channel list count is in the 40s. Not too many miles away, in Minneapolis (which has SA equipment instead of Moto), they could be looking at anywhere from late Fall to next Spring to get the World of More enabled HD channels.
By the middle of next year this will be significantly less bad than it has been the last two years, as "World of More" more or less completes (more or less, because it seems Comcast always has some older "one off" systems that they have the mental reservation of "but not you!" when they write general nationwide PRs) but I suspect will still be true in some outposts of the Comcast empire.
That linked list appears to be the Seattle/Portland Comcast region, which was one of the early WoM upgrades. A pretty hefty percentage of Comcast's customers (but now a minority, in the sense of less than 50%) still doesn't have anything close to that.
sigma1914, you've made yourself look like a fool. The Kid's period was clearly a mistyped comma, and previously he was correct to suggest that "Direct" is annoying to see used as if it was a company name.
mluntz, I found your critical little post ("Do you do anything besides criticize?") annoying as well.
Both of you could be a little more tolerant. (Yes, I see the irony; I'm quite intolerant of those who show little tolerance. In fact, I'm fed up with intolerance. )

I look like a fool because I correctly pointed out his error to someone that's quick to point out errors? Whether it was a typo or not, it was incorrect.
I'm running out of patience. There are a number of channels on the "Dish Has Directv Doesn't" that I've been waiting over a year for. D11 was a disappointment, though it added HD locals for many people and then D12 was delayed. This trickling out of channels is frustrating.
