it is in HD on Cablevision, because they also have TCMHD....

But, They have very outdated equipment, nothing like the HR24, the guide sucks, etc etc...

I'm sorry, but there's nothing about AMC or BBCA that screams major players. AMC has a total of three current original series, with only two airing right now. BBCA is no better. Yes they offer a lot of British series but how many of them are actually in HD? A few? AMC and BBCA are more niche channels than major players.

It's NOT just about the HD, ok it is, but I'm still ok with some shows being broadcast on a HD channel even though there not truly HD 16x9. My TVs have a nice "Cinema Zoom" feature, which can make it fill my screen without the black bars/weird stretch effect that plague some other tv manufacturers. And this, although not true HD, is infinitely better than watching it on a SD feed, since we all know how terrible SD looks on D*.

Although some of these HD channels stretch their programming, as many of you have come to find out, and it totally sucks big time!

I am not watching any original series on HBO or SHO now but would love to watch Mad men and Rubicon now in HD. Breaking Bad finished a month ago and I paid to download the series from Amazon VOD. The issue here is not "how many' but the quality of AMC originals are outstanding. Why do you think their shows get so many Emmys ?

You don't know much about these two channels do you?!:D

    1. "Mad Men" - Currently Airing
    2. "Rubicon" - Currently Airing
    3. "Breaking Bad" - On Hiatus
    4. "The Walking Dead" - Premiering in October
    5. "Hell On Wheels" - Premiering Next Year

Though I'm only interested in AMC's original programming, AMC is quite often one of the top watched channels on DirecTV, so apparently people watch movies on it as well... :D

    "Doctor Who"
    "Outcasts"
    "Top Gear"
    "Being Human"
    "Ashes To Ashes"
    "Primeval"
    "Demons"
    "Hotel Babylon"
    "Sherlock"
    "Skins"
    "Mistresses"
    "Robin Hood"
    "Torchwood"
    "Gavin And Stacey"

The above are just a sampling of some of the programming that airs from time to time on BBC America that is available in HD (and some of which I know for a fact has aired in America in HD), and I know I'm leaving some out.

There are additional series that could very well be aired in HD, but as I don't have access to BBC America, I really can't say. Does anybody know the status of shows like "Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares", "The Choir", "BBC World News", "The Graham Norton Show", "Come Dine With Me", "Peep Show", etc.?!

Given the success of some of their original programming, I would say AMC is a major player.

I would call BBCA a "major niche player". Their success with "Torchwood: Children Of Earth" showed promise of possibly rising above that status, but they haven't managed to duplicate it since...

    :)

I'm sure having an east and west coast feed for the main movie channels has more to do with their shows than anything else. HBO, Showtime, and Starz must want to be able to advertise their original shows as being on at the same time on each coast. Of course this theory doesn't apply to Cinemax West HD with their all movie schedule. At least DirecTV doesn't waste huge amounts of bandwidth by having an east and west HD feed of every HBO and Showtime like Verizon FiOS does.

I'm sure there's some truth to that. However, most shows are repeated 3 hours later on the feed, so a show like Dexter might air at 9 and midnight Eastern.

AMC just announced taking THE KILLING to series as well. That will make 5 or 6 series but still no HD here..sigh. In other news DirecTV announces the Table Tennis channel HD coming soon. (sarcasim mode)

Yup, had my suspicians that like D11, they would tease with a few national HD, then load up PPV and extra package sports channels and then leave us high and dry. Through all the prep time, launch time and positioning time of D12 there was plenty of time to firm up contracts with the other top HD channels.
Oh, and if I start hearing "just wait for D14", i'm going to join others in going postal.

Yeah...its amazing at the assumptions and "knowledge" about the sat resources and availability. Obviously D12 has plenty available, despite comments to the contrary.

Since Sixto's thread poses the facts, they are simple enough to see and understand, yet urban legend / myth thinking posts continue to abound.

It's a start. But, please don't make us wait too long to get the others, or at least a majority of them. D* sooner than later would be good. For starters, bring on DIY, AMC, BBC-A, E!, TCM & Fuse.

I recall reading that DirecTV employees don't visit this thread. (Too bad.)
