Well another HD channel MOST subs want gone to the other guy! I am talking about AMC-HD YES! I can tell you right now why Directv is not providing AMC in HD. Directv is afraid people will watch AMC for movies and not pay for the premiums!
I can't tell you the last time I watched a movie on AMC, to much cut out by editing and too many commercials added.
Still want TCM & FMC in HD
You forgot one word. "Well another HD channel MOST DISH subs want gone to the other guy! I am talking about AMC-HD."
I hope DIRECTV adds it for those on this site that want it. I probably will never watch it, like most other HD movie channels we already get. For me DIRECTV hits the HD mark with more sports channels in HD, then the other guy. Especially if you subscribe to NFL ST & NHL CI, like I do. Too each his own.
Given recent comments, I feel it important to note that TCM shows very little if any HD. That being said, I've heard that the upconversion often makes a big difference.
It's my third most wanted channel (behind BBC America and AMC).
Most DIRECTV subs want, gone to the other guy.
I bought it too. I got in trouble for this once before. I guess on the Internet you really do need to go overboard with the emoticons to make sure everyone knows you are joking. I thought it was clear I was mocking limied demographic based ratings and assumptions and people who thought watching The Matrix on TNT made sense (Hot Programming wise), but a John Wayne film on AMC didn't.
ReplayTV invented some features, TiVo invented some, and some were from prior patents.
Even Micro$oft's Ultimate TV deserves some credit.
OK, I will agree to "Most DIRECTV dbstalk subscribers want, gone to the other guy". I think that DISH draws more movie watchers and they probably have more subscribers that want AMC HD then total DIRECTV subscribers. No science to it, just my opinion.
It's the "editing for content" that grates on me. But almost all basic cable channels do it.
I always try to do a "wink emoticon" when I'm joking. It doesn't always get the point across that I'm joking, but it helps!
I did think you were serious... even though there is SOME truth to what you said regardless of whether it's a joke or not. It could also help explain why Encore Westerns is so popular.
1. Carries programming that is often EXCLUSIVE to that channel some of which isn't available on DVD.
2. Carries programming that is MOSTLY aimed at an older demographic in which may not be "hip" to Netflix, Amazon, iTunes, Redbox, etc.
That was the original poster's point. Another channel that is wanted by DirecTV subs gone to Dish Network.
BTW... I suspect that most people (myself included) that want AMC, don't want it for the movies...
To be honest, it's unlikely that what TCM is best at will translate to HD within the next decade. TCM shows movies that are essentially "lost" in our culture. Many of these movies weren't given new SD transfers for DVD. Unless a film preservation society steps in, it's likely even less will get HD transfers.
I do always try for my jokes to have at least a grain of truth. It's also helpful to look at the post I was specifically responding to.
There's a lot of their programming that won't be, but in the next two weeks, there's quite a bit of their programming that has HD masters, including a couple I have on Blu-ray.
I don't want to beat this to death, but he said most and I'm just not convinced of that. We have a very small % of DIRECTV subscribers that actually post opinions here.
I'm all for every channel in HD and sooner rather then later. If we ever get AMC HD, I'll probably check it out. I'm sure most want it for shows like "Mad Men", which I have never watched, because its in SD. I never watched Travel Channel in SD, but now that its in HD, I do record "Man V Food".
The carriage lists are not mutually exclusive. Just because DISH and some cable systems carry a channel doesn't mean DirecTV cannot add that channel.
There is still hope!
How about "most who express an opinion"?
I would agree with that statement as well. Just out of curiosity, do you have DISH or DIRECTV?
