They need to stick with Travel, and ditch shows like Man vs Food.:nono2:

Hot in Cleveland needs to be on a major network in a nice primetime spot, as this show is killer. TVLand doesn't deserve it! Who is the parent company to TVLand.

Yea "Mad Men" might actually break the "magical" 1.0 18-49 ratings barrier with all this pub now.

Whatever disagreements we have on the likely programming direction of DirecTV, our "wants" are pretty similar. If and when Ovation has an HD channel, I would like that too, but that is such a niche channel that I wouldn't complain until the more obvious HD gaps are filled.

Right now, AMC is where HBO was before The Sopranos and Sex and the City. Critically, they are seen as a place for quality television, but it wasn't until they found "quality" shows that dealt with sex and violence that the mainstream audiences watched. It's almost the same as between when those shows left the air and True Blood came on. I think AMC is smart to focus on "quality" television instead of chasing last years fad. Eventually, the two will coincide and they will have the best version instead of a cheap imitation.

This is true....basic cable wise. HBO is still the gold standard overall though. Showtime has come up with some fine shows lately as well.

It has really gone downhill, from what it used to be, I think they should rename it "Travel and Eat Channel". :D

HIC needs to be in HD.

I have a funny feeling we'll get QVC in the next batch, along with GSN and the CSPAN's.

My funny feeling is we'll get the Mountain West full time and maybe some more for the HD Extra pack. I do believe/hope we will get AMC & IFC by the end of the year. If that doesn't happen, all my confidence in DirecTV will be lost.

Could something like this be the reason why the tango is so difficult ?

"The FiOS iPad app, which is currently called “What’s Hot”, will allow existing subscribers to watch on their iPad the same programming that’s available on their TV screens. According to Verizon, the new app is targeted for release early next year. Keep in mind that every time you provide video content you need to make sure your content partners are in full agreement. Verizon expects to have all content partners on board by early next year."

Yes. TV Everywhere can be a complicated process to navigate. Not only are providers negotiating over a particular channel and VOD, but now you've got online access in the mix.

One thing to keep in mind about channels like C-Span 1/2/3 HD is that while they don't cost a provider a fee to carry, they also do not generate revenue. At first, I thought it made since to just add those since it wouldn't cost them anything. I see it a bit differently now.

TMC, AMC, BBC, FMC, Nat Geo Wild .... not anticipating anymore but I'd still like to see these in HD.

There was a couple links I posted last week for the NYTimes that discussed both TimeWarner Cable and DishNetwork as it relates to "TV Everywhere." Given that all television providers are up against the same obstacles, I don't think it is an excuse for DirecTV to not carry channels everyone else has made deals with.

In negotiations terms, the tango = a snipe hunt. DirecTV has become essentially the national source for programming. (Technically, I think, still #2 to Comcast, but you can get DirecTV in a lot of places you can't get Comcast.) Don't believe the excuses. DirecTV is smart enough to get deals done when they want to get deals done. After D11, sports coverage is no longer a major issue. We should have more national channels right now.

It takes two to tango. Folks love to oversimplify matters. There is so much that goes into this process, but some people refuse to recognize that. It is not nearly as easy an ordeal as some imagine. More national HD channels will come soon enough. There aren't even that many more to choose from anyway. We are moving towards scrapping the bottom of the barrel. Every provider has always had channels that another provider did not have. They've been fighting this battle since 1976.

If a channel you want is asking more than DirecTV is willing to pay, you won't get it. If you expect them to pay more than they feel is appropriate...keep dreaming. Now on top of that you have owners who control multiple networks, VOD, TV Everywhere, and the prospect of a single deal impacting all other potential deals. One false move and every other network will sense blood in the water. It would be a feeding frenzy. No excuses. Just reality.

Regardless, I am not sure what impact people believe complaining on here will have. You could just sit back and wait for news. If I was that unhappy, I'd leave.

Both HSN & QVC are in HD on U-verse since 2009. I guess they know how to tango better.

Lisa on QVC is eye popping in HD.

Then you would have SEVERAL channels you care about it...

TVLand is owned by MTV Networks (Viacom).

I personally have no issue with TV Land having it... though I too would enjoy it in HD. Shame TV Land can't offer it in HD via VOD ala AMC and "Mad Men" years ago...

Only if you are separating "basic cable" and "premium channels". I personally have more interest in AMC's programming than HBO's.

I expect more "basic" package channels. Not that I'd complain if I got "FearNet" or "Sony Pictures Movies HD"...

You should question everything you just said. If you didn't read these forums, would you ever use the word "tango?" Would you ever say it takes "two to tango?" Most of the channels people want have negotiated deals with every other provider. Until the last couple weeks, I would give you Rainbow media as a difficult tango partner, but now Dish has joined Fios in making deals. (Rainbow Media historical difficulty is why I've said several times we should wait a couple weeks before we criticize D* for not getting AMC yet.)

DirecTV customers complain they don't have certain channels. Someone who works for DirecTV uses the word "tango" and says it takes two. At best, people should realize that because most other providers do make deals, the one who can't/won't negotiate is DirecTV. Instead, people repeat the word "tango" like gibberish.
