I'd want C-SPAN3 in HD, if only to watch their tours of the White House, the Capitol and the Supreme Court Building in HD. These programs were magnificent in SD. But then, I watch regular C-SPAN, also.

Looks like an EncoreHD clone from different studio movies. Promising.

I'm not sure if he was referring to a schedule, or possibly the movies shown on the channel's website: Sony Movie Channel

The mention of 3D is interesting (DoD?)...

I didn't even realize they were listed there. I've visited the website a dozen times, but never allowed it to load long enough to show the list/slide-show thing.

Yep! Many of the movies shown have been aired on HDNet Movies multiple times and in the case of "Leon: The Professional", I have it on Blu-ray, so I can't say I'm TOO interested in the movies shown, but I'm VERY interested by the possibilities... :)

Considering GSN's shows are old and not in HD and are of poor quality, I doubt many would be happy. In fact, if DirecTV were to launch GSN in HD before all the other more preferred ones referenced in this thread, I'd be rather ticked off. Where the hell would their priorities be?

Before D11, I would agree. Thanks to DirecTV's "up to 150 channels" commercials and posts on this forum, most of thought that with D11 DirecTV would equal any slight advantage competitors had in national HD. It really wasn't until Sixto's analysis of D11's situation that it seemed obvious that the number of 24/7 HD national DirecTV could add was limited.

D12 seemed to solve the conflict between national HD and Sports packages. Again, I assumed most of hoped, based again both on DirecTV's ads and certain posts on this forum, for more national HD than it has so far provided. We know D12 has room; we know the sports packages aren't inteferring with that room; what we don't know for sure is whether that room is being saved for something we don't know about or the "up to 200 channels" advertised but apparently can't successfully negotiate with.

MY hunch is Epix 1 and 2 because they didn't get any other carrier in one year. Cheap tango. No Sony.

If not Sony, I'd expect Indieplex and Retroplex before I'd expect EPIX 1 and EPIX 2...

Indieplex and Retroplex are owned by Starz... ;)

Which is why I'm surprised we're not getting it at launch next week. If E* gets this before D*..........

Alan, Sony Movie Channel will be an HD only channel, there is no SD feed.

Also you should note that FearNet is currently VOD only.

I think GSN HD will be made available, on DirecTV, either on its Sept. 15 launch or not long thereafter (within, at best, a month).

Given DirecTV's inexcusable s-s-slowness and apparent reluctance to add national high-definition channels … I'm not necessarily confident. But I'm thinking it'll happen.

Since DirecTV has 50% ownership in GSN, it should be obvious; there's a tie-in with Sony, so I wouldn't be surprised if Sony Movie Channel [HD] — which launches Oct. 1 — also gets added to the HD Extra lineup (probably on the vacant ch. 563).

I'm a Directv sub because they have Sunday Ticket. If they didn't have it and another provider did then I would move to that provider. You would probably do the same thing if you could.t get your baseball. People who purchase ST and MLB are either affluent or fanatics about their sport and would follow it wherever it goes. Sorry for leaving NHL and NBA and Soccer fans out, they probably feel the same way. I sub to Premiere and have 5 HD DVRs and 1 HD rec. I could live without everything except ST.

I bet we get GSN in HD next Wednesday. Since GSN is 50% owned by Sony Pictures Television. I bet we get the Sony Movie Channel on October 1st. However........

What puzzles me, based upon GSN ownership, it seems DIRECTV and Sony are allies. Why the H does DISH already have their contract in place, yet DIRECTV doesn’t?

I base my assumption on this screenshot (off Sony Movie channel site).

Yup, noticed that too. I guess DISH has the best Tango instructors.
